came here one wednesday for Holiday Groove in 2009 and had a great time. got in for $10 and got to see some amazing dj's (morgan paige, charles feelgood, tommy lee, matt cerf, swedish egil etc.). the inside of the club is really nice. 2 floors, several bars, and the drinks were moderate prices and generous. i haven't been back but i hear thursday nights are good and i always see a line on saturday nights. okay so i came back to playhouse in september 2010 for a birthday party and let me tell you it was soooo amazing! first off we got to bypass the line because our friends had a table so you know what that meant...free drinks! anyways...so the decor didn't change much from the first time i went but there was a suprise performance by the black eyed peas (minus fergie). i cannot even tell you how amazing it was. i would definitely recommend checking this place out on a saturday night. there will probably be a line but who know's it might just be worth the wait!

Came here few times and still not sure what to make of it. It feels like an upscale place for the B&T crowd, cool design, fun vibe, and sufficient number of cute girls. I am into hip-hop and basement DJ rocks!... but I think they have a mandatory weed/cigs policy and really bad AC, so I usually ran out of there after 30 min

There are so many things about Rumor that would I would normally find incredibly annoying, yet I actually enjoyed my night here. Sure, there's a $25 cover for guys on a Tuesday night, you'll be forced to wait in line outside even when its freezing and the place is empty, and you might (as I did) get the frisking of your life by the second set of bouncers inside the door, but despite all that I'm sure I will go back here. It's fairly pretentious on the outside (see above about getting in), but once you're in there the bartenders were great, and the party was definitely on. Maybe it's just that there are so few (maybe no) other places like this in Boston, but it was a nice change of pace. Felt almost like a Manhattan club, except with 1/10th the number of New Jersey guido d-bags. So clean yourself up, bring a bunch of cash, and check out Rumor. For those who really want to do Rumor, word on the street is a table's going to run you $500. At some clubs, having a table might have some benefits, but Rumor is not one of them, IMHO.
