deciding to go to Avalon for the first time ever on Wolfgang Gartner night was a very very very stupid idea. I love Wolfgang and all, but really?! for starters, there was no parking nearby, so we (me, bf, my friend, and my bf's friend) had to park quite a walk away. in heels... wah. then, we saw the line. i was just thinking in my head god damn! it was a mess, with two big lines going down either side of the building, almost to the end of the block. i don't even know how we managed to get in, i just know that the bf's friend is very experienced in the hollywood club scene so somehow, 15 minutes later, we were inside. i think it had a lot to do with buying the tickets online, because they have to reserve spots for you inside if you get there before 11:30. although that might be total bullsh*t, because they definitely don't seem to like following capacity laws. the venue itself is nice, it's pretty big (with the exception of the tiny, crappy smoking patio which was atrocious. pretty much no room to walk, stand, or smoke. wah.). i have two major gripes: TOO MANY E-TARDS for one. and WAY too packed. To the extent of my knowledge, venues are required to have only one person per 3 square feet for painfully obvious safety reasons. but nope, no room to breathe, much less walk, dance, or do much of anything other than get elbowed/whacked in the face by the aforementioned e-tards. wah. lesson learned: don't come here when big dj's are playing. I can wait until the next big EDM concert/massive and watch from the bleachers or the sides/back. I wouldn't mind coming on a much much less crowded night though, I really do like the venue.

While it is no longer Tj circa of 06-07 seasons, this place rarely disappoints. I am into hip-hop, and this place almost always delivers for me: great DJs, fun people who enjoy dancing, and attentive bartenders. If you are not looking for the hottest place and don't feel going for too casual fare in village or LES, this is the place to go, and on Tue, this is my absolute fav.

Once the premier nightspot in Manhattan, Marquee has lost some of its exclusivity, but still ranks among the best elite clubs. Yes it's expensive, and gaining entry is an art form. Get there early, avoid the weekends, and guys must bring hottees. You'll have to spring for bottle service to sit down. The music is always amazing with separate DJs on each level. The major drawback, beside the tough door, is the cramped dance floor. The intimate VIP Room is the place to schmooze. My favorite area is upstairs overlooking the main floor. Marquee is a great place to hang during the week. Have the right look and a fat wallet.
