came to La Vida on a saturday night a few months back for my friends birthday and all-in-all it was a decent experience. first off we didn't have to wait in line (i knew one of the promoters) nor did we have to pay a cover so i'm not entirely sure if there is a cover or how much it might be. the place is on the corner of gower conveniently located just below Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles (yum!) anyways, the decor was really nice. the place had a more loungey vibe rather than a club feel. the main part of La Vida is outside and there are plenty of places to sit and there are lights strung up through the trees, very serene. there is a small dancefloor inside the club and when i say small i mean SMALL. they played mostly top 40's and hip/hop (nothing too amazing). there were some good looking people, mostly white people and a handful of asians..the place wasn't too diverse but, everyone was dressed to impress. the drinks are standard hollywood prices (we had a table so i didn't actually pay for any drinks) but some girl we befriended said she paid like $12 for her drink which was nothing special. probably won't revisit this club it's not really my scene but, if you're looking to have low key night at a nicer place but still want somewhat a club vibe then i'd recommend la vida.

I am on a never ending quest to find a decent hip-hop club where people know how to dance... my friend strongly recommended this place, so I went out of my way to come here (it is in LES, not far from the box). What a trash, it is like these youngsters were studying for exams in a nearby park and suddenly decided to go dancing w/o changing clothes or taking a shower. Besides, this joint also showcases lots of drunks, too many guys, no good looking people, mediocre DJ, and bad AC, or it is in a seedy neighborhood too... never again!

When I feel like getting a lil' loose but don't feel like wandering too far from Harlem Jake's Dilemma always serves my needs. With decent drink specials everyday and several of my favorite beers on tap Jake's D has everything the immortal college student in me loves. It has all the classic trimmings of a college bar like a pool table, buck hunter, two beer pong tables and foosball. This keeps my drunken half and all the "woo girls" happy and coming back for more. Come here only if you want to get a little sloppy and you absolutely don't give a flying eff whether yuppies and frat types are surrounding you. Check out the back which is a makeshift den complete with old ten cent hardcovers I am sure the library didn't want and pleather couches.
