by Jeff T. on Rolled into Hayakawa for a dinner of nigiri sushi and was very pleased with the experience. Having lived in Japan for 3 months, I found the level of service and personable attention afforded me very enjoyable, reminiscent of neighborhood eateries in Japan. Fish was of excellent quality. Uni right out of the Santa Barbara Channel, excellent yellowtail, and a killer bottle of Seigei sake made the experience complete. While I normally swear by nigiri, it should be noted that the rolls at Hayakawa are of top notch quality and not filled with the leftover trimmings from nigiri preparation found at most other sushi houses. Smelt Roe imbued with wasabi were another highlight of the meal.
by Nina Tice on Ok so apparently my ass missed the memo that Saturday nights here = freaky deaky slender pale men and lots of ladies in corsets and fishnets with drawn on eyebrows gyrating to The Cure. I felt like I walked onto the set of Nightmare before Christmas. If this is your scene, I think it must be a pretty awesome spot, however since I was expecting 80's dancing and frolicking, I was a touch disappointed. On the plus side, the adorable gay bartender was delightful and apparently someone had just made him a 40 pound skull out of mirrors for his birthday, which to me, sums this place up perfectly.
