by Ginger Soptick on So this would be my first rateclubs blog....rant about a restaurant in Atlanta. I'm relatively new to the ATL and finally made it around to making a reservation for Friday night dinner at Rosa Mexicano. For the place being in Atlantic Station, its well placed. The ceilings are high, and the lights provide a nice ambiance. An excellent choice. We arrive, in the midst of a down pour in the monsoon of Atlanta, 2009. After quickly being seated, we were promptly greeted and placed our initial drink and app order. Our waitress was warm and delighted us with her common knowledge of the restaurants' menu. I decided I was going to have a specialty margarita. I am a huge fan of Mango so I ordered one with a Mango mush of sorts. It was laden with some terrible tequila and too much salt. I mostly ended up nursing it when I would have inhaled it otherwise. Sorry Rosa, but Zocalo has you beat in my book. the appetizer was wonderful to say the least. We ordered Queso Fundido and it comes with petite flour tortillas and chips which ironically came from this cart that was adjacent to our booth. YUM...YUM.... As my entree, I had the Arrachera con Camarones which is a stew that, by request one can order with a mix of mild and spicy sauce that tames the default sauces' scoville temperature. I found the apparent size of the dish a bit lacking, but soon discovered that I was not able to finish the dish after eating for ten minutes. My partner ordered the Enchiladas Suizas, and he found it to be almost too much to eat in one sitting. Towards the end of the meal I decided to order a favorite of mine, Tres Leches cake, and take it home after realizing there was no way I was going to be able to finish and eat the sweet treat I wanted so much. All in all, I found the place to be moderate in price per plate, but well worth the cost. I suggest that anyone wishing to try a nice "stew" with a Rosa flair try the Arrachera con Camarones (Beef with Shrimp Stew). We will definitely be returning!!
