If you're looking for that perfectly typical sceney Hollywood night out, Opera is a pretty safe bet. It is attached to Crimson next door and I as of yet cannot tell you the distinction. Prepare to wait in a long line down the sidewalk, regardless of whose list you're on. Luckily it's on a side street so you don't have to cower at the embarrasing prospect of being ridiculed by cars driving down Hollywood. But add this to the picture: two tall blonde Russian babes waiting behind us, wondering if their IDs would work. (They did not.) Once inside, we had to pass through a slim corridor where some sort of red carpet photo shoot was taking place. Because we were obviously not who the cameras wanted to see, we were hurried along by frustrated security guards. Then you encounter a little window where some young women ask you to pay cover and you again have to explain whose list you are on and why you think you shouldn't have to pay a cover. Once you are finally inside, I'd be lying if I said it was immediately all worth it. The set-up is pretty cool - specially delimited spaces for lounging or dancing, DJs play pretty predictable hip hop and dance mash-ups, and the drinks aren't exorbitantly expensive. Try it if you know what to expect.
