by Sean S. on I went to this place about a month ago cause my friend was spinning with Wolf + Lamb. Was walking around the neighborhood today, and remembered the place. It's Meserole & Manhattan Ave, between the Nassau and Greenpoint G train stops. It's not bad, a big space, and huge dance floor upstairs. However, it's kinda out of the way, a real hike from the Bedford L, more likely you'll transfer to the G which drops you off two blocks away. Drinks are cheap, and pips are hip, but I would make sure in advance that you pick the right night to go. When I went it was pretty dead, even at 1am when we ended up leaving. But it definitely had potential...
by Ciera Bielec on Wow, some guy commented that there were cute girls here... I didn't see one. Actually, I saw several cute girls but they were actually guys. No biggie - just making an observation. I went for 80's night one Thursday and am told every Thursday is 80's night. So this is where all of SF was hanging out every Thursday, leaving places like Medjool empty, I thought to myself. It's a very unusual crowd - - you have a little bit of everything from the yuppies to the punks to the transies and so forth. If you're straight, go here... if you're gay, go there... if you don't care, go anywhere, etc. Music was very 80's, but that's no surprise... and it was actually quite decent. I should place a disclaimer that within 45 minutes of entering, my friends and I were absolutely obliterated that night, so what I recall pertains to exactly 45 minutes of Cat Club. The night might have been excellent, for all we know, but the owner (who one of the people I went with knew personally) started buying us drinks in addition to the many drinks we bought ourselves, and soon enough, we were not sure WHERE we were... we just thought it was "hella fun". I lost count after 8 shots in a row... I couldn't count anymore. No joke! I even tried to pull the, "Do you boys realize I'm a girl? I can't drink like this..." when all three of my guy friends stared at me and told me to shut up and drink. Chivalry died a long time ago, why I continue to be surprised, I dunno.... It's a real dive in the sense that there is nothing fancy about this place. But it's a nice size, and it's very active... and like I said, there is a little something for anyone, everyone. If on a particular Thursday night, you find yourself in a mood to party and be merry - - try it out. I'd do it again too... and this time, I'd stay sober. (Oh my goodness.. that is funny!) They also have a vendor out on the street right in front of the club, permeating the air with some delectable hot dogs wrapped in bacon for a nominal fee. I can't say how clean it was, or how nutritional it really is, or what it cost, for that matter - but I can say that those things are DAMN GOOD when you're done with a night of partying. Whoo, boy.... an experience at Cat Club with tons of alcohol to pickle your liver, combined with a bacon-wrapped hot dog to clog your arteries.... it's like begging death to come get you, but if nothing else, you'll go out in style, smiling...
