by Stephen D. on Had a great night dancing to LA Riots here last night. In general, I've been happy with Ruby Skye over the past few years. I don't go out of my way to check it out, but they bring in good music often enough that I find my way there anyway. The sound system is lovely - loud and crisp, and appropriate for the (large) space. So many places get that wrong! The bars are large too and even with how crowded it gets, I've always had an easy time getting a drink. Standard drink prices for clubs in SF - ~7$ for a well. The guest list thing they have going is a bit of a bait and switch. Last night we signed up in advance for free entry before midnight. Showed up at 11 and the line for guest list was around the corner and not moving - clearly, getting in by midnight wasn't going to happen, so we could wait an hour and pay, or just pay then. 20$ to get in, no line at all for cash. I guess the lesson is if you want the free entry, show up more like 10. The crowd's funny too. They bill it as "upscale" (there's a dress code that says collared shirts, no jeans, no sneakers, but I've never seen it enforced) and you'll see plenty of guys in sports coats, but for particular nights, it'll get pretty hipster or burner depending. In general, people are there to dance, so it doesn't really matter.
by Shannon Bregantini on I love this place- pretty low key and easy to converse. I came here with a girlfriend this past weekend and we met so many friendly people. The drinks were good and so was the service. It is a nice place to go before you go to the clubs.
