Come to Trudy's for the drinks, not the food. I know many people will argue that the food is great, but I call it like I see it. Admittedly, the stuffed avocado is great, but everything else I've had has just been ho-hum. Anyway, enough about boring food and on to the DRINKS. Two words - Mexican martini. A full shaker of tequila bliss. These bad boys are so strong that they have a limit of two per person. Once you drink two, they cut you off from any more drinks. So if you're going to be there awhile, maybe switch to ritas or beer after your first martini. I know, I know, it's just so hard to stop at one. They also have fantastically spicy bloody marys, and their wide variety of flavored margaritas are delicious. I love to snag a booth in the bar area. During college, I spent more nights than I can count in that big corner booth (most likely procrastinating studying). This was also the place I had my first legal drink on my 21st birthday! Yeehaw for free Mexican martinis (one free drink for each bday girl/boy)! The place gets PACKED...um...really, most of the time. Weekends especially. Expect long waits, and maybe just try to grab a spot in the bar when one becomes available. It's also really difficult to come here with large parties. The biggest group they will sit is 8, so be prepared to be split up. And even then, they can't guarantee that the different tables will be seated at the same time. I don't know if they take reservations, but if so, I would highly recommend them. No trip to Austin is complete without a visit to Trudy's!

Another solid four star review here. We came for dinner but wound up feeling more like we were at a party with everyone getting their groove on and the whole place buzzing. The sangria was waaay too sweet for me but the margarita/salt/rocks was heaven. The food can be truly delicious though there are a few misses on the menu. Tapas standouts are octopus, chorizo and crabcakes. Ay-yi-yi! Oh, and the banana dessert? That shit is b-a-n-a-n-a-s! Mmm! I have to agree with the rateclubser who was not having the table in the corner near the bathroom/kitchen. That table sucks. The manager should really consider not having a table there at all. We sat nearby and took some serious pity on the poor people sitting there. If the hostess tries to make you sit at it, run away.
