POD never tries to be something that it's not. It knows it's fluff, it knows it's bright and crazy, and it never attempts to be too snooty for its own good. It's upscale dining for people who aren't big upscale diners. I've been to POD three times now, and each time the service has been consistent and the food has been excellent. The three servers I've had at POD were roughly the same -- college-aged or fresh out of college, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, and similarly awkward. However, they're always on-pointe in terms of being attentive and informed about the menu and its content. Their drink recommendations are always different (glad to see management isn't pushing one drink in particular) and their food recommendations are to be trusted, to say the least. The restaurant's funky, mod decor and atmosphere are definitely perfect for dinner with friends or to crack some of that first-date awkwardness. The restaurant itself is a conversation piece, from the sushi conveyor belt to the TVs playing cartoon musicals to the bathrooms that look like they're straight out of The Jetsons. The food never fails to disappoint me here. Sadly I'm not a fan of sushi, and that was a major concern I voiced when I was taken to POD on a date for the first time. Thankfully, their non-sushi menu is incredible. The tempura rock shrimp is delectable, and the grilled pineapple and candied walnuts make the dish. The chicken potstickers are delicious, and the spicy mustard aioli will definitely get your mouth salivating. The thai lettuce wraps with chicken are a STARR favorite, and I can understand why they make appearances on some of his other restaurant's menus. The macadamia chicken stir-fry is like your typical Chinese take-out food on steroids. Flavorful and not once did I question whether or not I was eating cat. The colored cocktails are a favorite of mine. The Yellow is my personal favorite. Like I said, this is a great choice if you're looking for somewhere to go on a first date or with friends, or to introduce mom and dad to funky city eating.

Oh Marquee, Marquee. I don't even know where to begin... Well let's start by saying the only reason I attempted to deal with the cluster-fuck that is Marquee is because I had a friend hosting a party and was guaranteed free entree without any line waiting. Also there were going to be free bottles and drink tickets, so I figured, why not? I snaked my way to the bar and was literally aghast at what was happening. I thought that Marquee was a little past it's prime with regard to the cool factor and this was immediately confirmed by the slew of skeezy douche bags and Z-list celebrities vying to get in (Markus Schenkenberg anyone?). The staff seemed beyond incompetent at controlling the line. There was one huge line (or mob, more like it) and then all these side lines of people who felt they shouldn't have to wait in line started sprouting up and none of the like 80 people whose job it is to control the line seemed smart enough to use their critical thinking skills and do something. At this point, there were a lot of European accents dropping names, which made me giggle. Eventually I fought my way through the mob and got in. The space is actually really cool and I can only imagine what it was like during it's hey day. Other than the people I knew there, Marquee seemed to attract a weeknight B&T crowd that wasn't aware that telling your co-workers the next day that you went to Marquee is no longer impressive. The drinks I had to buy were an astronomical price and the bartenders were sub-gorgeous. There was actually some pretty great music being played and there is a spacious dance floor to get your groove on. 1 part hysterical, 1 part pathetic, Marquee is a New York reminder that if you build it, they will come.

There is no shortage of entertainment (hot guys on stages dancing almost nekked everywhere you turn, not to mention sizzling hot bartenders) at Sticky Micky's!  Go see for yourself.  Ladies, wear your platform shoes  - the bathroom is like a swimming pool.  It didn't look like pee, just water, water, everywhere.  And prepare to sweat a lot.  It got VERY crowded on Sunday night (holiday weekend), but everyone seemed friendly & cool. 4 things I have learned this weekend: -WeHo knows how to PARTY! -Clubbing is more fun when you don't drink.  (Last night I had bottled water after one beer.) -JayChan can SING, who knew!!?? -I need to get my ass home earlier!!!
