by The J's H. on I finally got to check out XIV during Dine LA week. The food was amazing, but would never pay full price for the service offered. I had an 8:30pm reservation for a group of 5. Considering most of the tables there are big, it didn't seem this would be a problem. We showed up about 10 minutes prior to our reservation and ordered a drink at the bar while we waited. We politely checked with the server around 8:45pm, but we were not still seated until 9pm! No apologies for the wait. All of us enjoyed our food, however one of my friends steak appetizer was so rare that she couldn't even cut it. We understand a good piece of steak isn't cooked well done, but this was too much. When the server checked in on us, my friend pointed out how 3 of us ordered the exact the same thing and hers looked completely different. The server rudely said - "What do you want me to do about it?" After another friend chimed in, the server took the meat back to the kitchen and brought out the same piece on another plate with extra garnish as if we couldn't tell the difference. Finally a manager check it on us, we told him the story, and even he seemed shocked. He replaced my friends appetizer with something new and we went about the rest of our meal with no more food problems. Everything I ate was delicious. All of us ordered the wine pairing to go with our meal. However, whenever the servers would bring the wine, no one told us what it was or why it would compliment our meal. Every single time a glass came, I had to catch the server before they turned around. I still have no idea what came with my dessert. Yes, I like to drink but it doesn't mean that I ordered up the pairing just to get drunk. We all wanted to have the best mean with the best drinks. All in all, the food is amazing and so are the drinks. When making a reservation, be sure to make it at least 30 mins. prior to when you would actually like to sit down. Just don't expect to see many friendly faces. -JG
by Gavin Shapard on I would never go there again. The Waffle House is better. The corned beef hash was mushy, gray and disgusting, with less crispiness and browning than it should have. There was a 2 inch hair sitting neatly on top of the food. We complained to the cashier about it but he could not have cared less. The cooks do not always wear hairnets. Really gross, and overpriced too! Really, do yourself a favor and go anywhere else...
