by Allan Y. on Disclaimer: I have never actually eaten here, I've only been here for the nightlife...and what a nightlife it is! I don't know why, but I love Mayes Oyster House. Yeah I said it. I have no idea what my attraction to Mayes is all about, but I truly love this place. Maybe it's the good music (Top 20 hits with occasional classics thrown in the mix), the cheap drinks or the carefree spirit of everybody there. In most places this crowded, if you even step on a person's shoe, World War III breaks out. But this doesn't happen at Mayes. I can honestly say I have never had a bad time here. Never. Not once. This place is just so clutch for me like a Robert Horry 3 pointer or an Edgar Renteria postseason base hit. When all else fails, Mayes always seems to make my night eventful. Sure the $5 cover kind of sucks and sometimes I feel like the bouncers hold up the line just to make it seem like it's extra busy. And usually I complain about these things, but for Mayes all is forgiven. Mayes it's kind of like Fredo Corleone (Godfather I Fredo and not back stabbing Godfather II Fredo); sure you are a slimy womanizer with loose morals, but hey you are family! Fuhhhgetboutittt.
by Grace Y. on A flippin' awesome venue! My boyfriend bought dinner tickets for our show and it got us a great view of the venue from upstairs in a private seating area. The dinner choices were surprisingly delicious and gourmet. I was concerned about eating here, but the service was prompt and polite. They were also great with being flexible and letting us swap out food from their regular menu in lieu of their regular pick of entrees. I was really impressed with the food they served. Their bread was ridiculously good, and I normally hate bread. Yum! The best part of being up on the balcony is that you got access to your own bathrooms, and judging from the lines downstairs, it was really worth it in itself since I didn't have to wait and there were 2 stalls. The venue itself was perfect. Large enough that it was roomy, but you had a good view of the stage wherever you stood. I got to walk around downstairs when I got tired of sitting down and gawking from above. I'm really looking forward to the next time I can revisit GAMH. Yes, I'm also looking forward to the dinner. Shush you, it's superb!

(i was on the guestlist, btw)... i was absolutely disappointed. are you sure you guys check i.d.'s? i'm only in my mid/late 20s but how come everyone there looks like they're 18 and under? the wait for drinks was ridiculous! the downstairs was waaayyyyy over crowded. what's with all the hype?
