by Garreth W. on Holy fish slap to the face Batman. What the world needs is more theme pubs. It's like being in Britain only without the funny money and the plane ride and grey skies. I have to admit I enjoyed my fish and chips when I inexplicably found myself at SBSP&G today. I'm not sure how it happened, I guess the quirky plastic charm must have ingrained itself between the steering wheel and my brain as I passed it's tall moniker so many times as it stood impassively guarding a ridiculously tall pole by 183 and Burnet. I ignored the tat and nonsense, and went for option 1 on the menu. It's hard to screw up fried fish in batter and fried potatoes. And screw it up, they didn't. The tartare sauce was passable and the vinegar tasted suitably watered down. How authentic. I must have been delirious, as when I noticed that the chips came authentically served on a fake piece of newspaper, I actually started to laugh. The very idea of wasting paper to mimic the practice of recycling newspaper actually made me burst into chuckles. They must have put something in my water. Probably not vinegar. Did I say authentic enough yet? If not, it's an authentic fake English pub.
