by Michael m. on If you can accept a few truths, you will really enjoy the Frying Pan. $35 for a bucket of coronas, which works out to what, $5.50 per beer or so? Figure you're a typical person who figures that that extra $5 is the tip. $40 for 6 beers is what you're paying. If there are only a few of you, then each person buying a bucket can be a wonderful thing. If there are 6 or more, the beer ratio effects the money ratio which ultimately alters your eventual drunk ratio. It will get crowded, but you CAN find a table for yourself and friends. They do a bang up job squeezing a lot of seating on the boat(ON A BOAT) and they do an even better job removing buckets & bottles that are empty. The burger is delicious, but as mentioned by others, $10 bucks should get you some fries. So you end up dropping $13-14 for a burger & fries. I guess the biggest truth is you might find yourself $55 in the hole before you even sit down. As someone who can eat, be drunk and merry for less than that in a night, it's something to consider when mulling over whether or not you want to take off after the sun goes down. The crowd is awesome for people watching. I think that's part of what you're paying the price for. The bottom line is I think everybody should seek this place out to experience it, and maybe consider it a starting point for an evening bouncing around to other more traditional watering holes.
by Napoleon Macdonnell on We took a crew here after a film festival night b/c we had gone to the opening party and gone bar crawling and we needed a release. We wanted to dance. There were 4 guys and 1 girl and we were walking towards the front door and some car full of Mexican-Americans who must have been all in their very early 20s drives by with squealing tires and hucks a full Gatorade bottle at us that flies between my head and my friend Michelle's head and they scream "Faggots." Really? in 2008? The dancing- fun and beer spillage and trannies and bathroom doors that don't lock and 80s Depeche Mode and more trannies and bears and frats oh my.
by Bob Pestone on Just went here today. Again, my brother and I got hungry while walking around down town and this place was right there. The place was kind of dead, but I guess it is monday. The service was good. Everyone was very friendly and the chips and my drink never ran out, they were always full. As far as the food went it was okay. It wasn't bad, but it also wasn't anything to write home about. Their fish tacos were lacking this thing called flavor. Maybe you've heard of it? They had no seasoning or marinade or anything. The mole enchiladas were decent enough. Mole is a bit hard to do in restaurants and I've never been anywhere that delivered, this place was no different. My enchiladas in the green sauce were decent enough too. This place is what I like to call meh. It not bad, but it's also not the best. If your in town and looking for some mexican food this will most likely leave you satisfied. The staff is very friendly and the place is cute.
