(3.5 stars) I can't think of a better watering hole than Frying Pan to patronize on a warm afternoon/evening. Open air. Sea breeze. (Mmm, I smell chicken soup. No wait, that's sewage.) And it's cheap, too. I didn't expect much out of my $7 gin/tonic, but it was surprisingly solid. The bar is also well-stocked with Coronas. If you're in a group, opt for a $30 bucket. The place, especially the bar area, is packed. Though FP is hardly small, good luck finding a seat when you get out of work! (David L. suggests getting there either before 5p or after 10p.) Once in a blue moon, you might stumble across some chairs among its multiple, scattered, seating areas, if, that is, you're willing to do a little leg work. I would advise against overdrinking while lounging on the boat proper, though. (Sit on the dock, instead.) I can imagine that the rocking motion would lead to unpleasant consequences...

My general thought pattern of anything on W. 27th street is these are Wal-Marts of the club going world, sans the low-prices. They are like the big box, impersonal retailers that shove as many people as possible into their establishment and just wait to be shut down for violating some type of rule or restriction. Sound familiar!? Home is no better. I went here for a private party on a Monday night--the party was great and I had an amazing time, but this didn't have anything to do with Home. The coat check was $3 and the little man that grabbed my jacket had a 'tude that was larger than life. The drinks were eh--they gave my friend a rum and pineapple juice(EW!) instead of vodka and soda with a spalsh of pj, and if you turned the lights on in this place, it would be a dirthole. I rubbed my arm against a wall and i kid you not--black soot was on my arm. GROSS. The party was great, but what I do like about HOME are the large couches that make up the parameter of the two different rooms and the terrace which is awesome and has a ton of seating and tables. I'm sure thats great in the summer time, but i'm sure it gets packed as well. All in all, unless i am going to a party with an open bar and my friends in tow, i'm not stepping into Wal-Mart..err...Home, ever again.
