by Stephanie A. on WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!!!!!!!!! Someone died in this club last night! Ghetto people, leave your knives at home when you come to party! The entire club was on lock down for 90 minutes with no communication or organization from the club staff or police. Chaos ensued because everyone just wanted to leave. I'm only 4'11" and enduring all this pushing and shoving was the worst thing I've ever been through in my entire life. Seriously I thought I was going to be trampled, it was just terrible. When I asked the bouncer how I could go about getting the $300+ my friends paid to get in this place, he had the audacity to say "theres no way you'll get your money back, we're not at fault." REALLY? You're security and you're telling me that you're not at fault that someone was MURDERED in YOUR club!? I hope this place gets shut down. If it doesn't, I'll never EVER go back!
by Kate B. on What a strange vibe this place has. You walk in and approach a formal restaurant podium, only to be led to... a bar? It feels like Mary Shelly scavenged a handful of tables, dressed them up in white linen, and transplanted them into a completely unrelated venue. Naked white walls conflict with Asian-style decor, and a stage stabs out into the room, its raw, concert-style speakers looming over lunch-time diners. The bar itself is a wide marble slab more befitting a nightclub (which it apparently turns into later on), and the "dining room's" separation from the main hall makes you feel like you're taking tea in the servant's quarters. The food itself is good, but a little too expensive for what it is. I was impressed with the naan-based pizza, which had very fresh tomatoes. But my friend's chicken entree barely exceeded room temperature. Prana is a decent spot if I need a break from my usual place, but not somewhere that is likely to *become* my usual place.
by Tresa Scholin on My first experience at Shine and I didn't quite know what to expect. The highlight was that there was no cover charge! Yay! We like no cover charges! As I looked around, I felt a little under-dressed. I wasn't in costume! There was no dress code, and we like places with no dress code. On the screen was Burning Man 2006 and we realized, this must be the party for all those who couldn't make it this year. (This was confirmed when I checked their website's calendar - BRC Orphans Party with DJ 8Ball and Mancub!) Small dance floor, live DJ, and a sitting area to kick back. The highlight is the free photo booth in the corner. You can take free photos and they are posted on Shine's website. (I took a few photos, but I couldn't seem to find mine though.) The bad part was when I sat down and realized I sat on a 'wet spot'. I can only hope it was someone who spilled their drink and nothing else. Argh! The women's bathroom is pretty cool. Huge mirror and cool toilet paper stand. Clean and quite grand for a tiny place like this. Parking was pretty easy on Mission too. Or maybe we just lucked out that night. Overall, tiny place to chill. I would go back, as long as there's no cover.
