by Jim S. on If this place were run a little better it would be filled with alot more customers. Sugar Cafe suffers from a lack of imagination and is basically a flop for free-wifi that is usually broken. Half the bartenders either look like they need some rehab or young and flustered when taking orders. The Service is VERY SLOW and it can take a half hour just to get a mohito. Forget this place. There's better in the neighborhood. On top of that there are always skeevy panhandlers lying on the ground on the corner who they feed. How is a day old muffin nutritious or any help. The music is hit or miss and they play these terrible videos as wallpaper - guess there's a copywrite issue, etc. Anyway like I said there's better on nob hill within two blocks depending on whether you like a bar or a cafe. Have a look yourself and hear the quiet sucking sound. Tragic.
by Dewey Reing on this place sort of bothers me. the bouncers and the people that work here were acting like this place was poppin'... and the truth is, it's really not. the music was good... but the dj could've done a better job at mixing the songs, playing the unknown songs for a short period of time, and the hotter songs for a little longer. the space is nice. pretty awkward but nice... but the space is not the problem. i'll tell you what the problem is... it's the people. they're wack and nasty. yeah, i said it. i spotted a group of guys that just danced with EACH OTHER all night and took up too much space doing so... one guy would occasionally look over at groups of girls like he wanted to dance with them, but his boys kept sucking him back in-- dude, get some new friends! a sleazy dude with a roll of quarters (*cough*) that couldn't keep his hands to himself tried to dance with me. a wack dude were a baby gap polo shirt walked up to my friend and just stared at her chest for about 15 seconds. people that looked like they were too old for the club were acting a fool. i could go on and on. i had a great time dancing with my girls but 'element' is not on the top of my list of places to go out dancing on a whim. i wouldn't even suggest the place to anyone.
by Rogelio Schnaible on This is a great place to get dressed up and yes bring out the 4 inch heels. The drinks here are expensive, but expertly made and delicious. Dont bother ordering a beer here. What a waste that would be. For better luck getting in, just get dressed up and maybe get there slightly early and have a drink at the bar. You might be happy for that seat because it does get really really crowded. Fun vibe and delightfully decadent in decor. Great place to dance the night away and drink the night away too. Just plan on having your charge card or plan on making some new friends.
