Another run-of-the-mill 'speak easy' bar with a small dance floor. Pros: - no cover all night if you're on the guestlist - tons of $10 parking lots nearby (it's across the street from Temple SF). - nice decor and music isn't too loud so you can talk and mingle - bartenders and security are very friendly Cons: - drinks are weak - gets crowded and isn't very big It seems like the current "in" spot, but I wasn't that impressed.

Top Flr, which I can't stop calling "Top Fler," is probably my current favorite. I've been twice and was impressed both times. The prices were totally reasonable, and the overall quality was unexpectedly superb. I really thought that the $13 tuna tartar appetizer was going to be a disappointingly small heap of tuna, because generally, it seems like tuna is always overpriced and/or under-proportioned. However, when it came out, I was shocked because it's a freaking massive portion and was some of the best tuna tartar I've had in awhile. We've split a side both times (the spaetzle), because honestly, the main portions are plenty. I've gotten the scallops both times as well, and each time I considered licking my plate to be sure I didn't waste a bit of deliciousness. Again, the portions were really great for the price. For $15, I expected a few decent sized scallops, but I was again surprised to find 4 giant scallops smiling at me from my plate. The fourth scallop was a little hidden behind some garnish, and when I discovered it, I was disturbingly excited. The first time I had them, they were served with a lemongrass reduction and braised endive. The endive was real bad, but I was so entranced by the tasty scallops alongside the zip of the lemongrass, I didn't even mind. On round two of the scallops when we made our return visit, they served them over a sweet potato puree, and it was great as well. However, I was a little disappointed because I felt like the sweet potato puree was just too easy and lacked creativity. I mean, I still ate the shit out of it and was pleased as punch with the entire meal, but I really appreciated the lemongrass and endive because it was a delicious, new, creative favor(even though the endive blew). The ambiance is sort chic and I like it. The wait staff has been okay. I don't think they've been amazing, but they served the food and poured the wine, so I don't have any complaints. Overall, I love this place. I can't wait to go back again, I just hope I can tear myself away from the scallops and try a new dish.
