by Jessica S. on This is not a place I would go back to by choice. I ended up here on a Saturday night and was not impressed. The place was incredibly crowded, it was hot and stuffy, and the music wasn't great. The downstairs area with the dancefloor felt like a basement. It was tiny and the floors were sticky and gross. The crowd was very young and predominantly asian that night, which is not my cup of tea since I prefer a more mixed crowd. It's a good thing we didn't have to pay cover that night. It would have been a waste. There are better places to go on a Saturday night.
by Chi Scalzi on Das Bunker the best industrial club in the US has been going strong for 12 years, and I've been there since day one at the Que Sera in Long Beach, CA. These days, you'll find them at Jewel's Catch One in Los Angeles. My only advice--get there early! The neighborhood is sketchy and there is limited parking available. Arrive before 10:30 and you might find a spot in the lot behind the venue; otherwise, try the $5 lots across the street. Bunker will shock you if you aren't already into Industrial, EBM, or Powernoize--although I've also heard some techno, (noisy) tech house, and electro being played in the main room. Yes, people are mostly all dressed in black, and yes, they all dance the same. But so do most people at most clubs in Los Angeles who call leg-humping a dance! If what you're looking for is skill--then go to a rave or underground hip-hop event for popping and breakdancing galore. If you're okay with some silly dancing, stripper poles, and drunken adventures (with a taxi ride to downtown, west hollywood, etc only costing you about $10) then come dance your tush off at Das Bunker. If you are looking for a spacious venue to shake your butt to the best industrial music in the country then Das Bunker is for you. If you're looking for the best industrial shows featuring some of the best industrial bands from around the world then you've found you're niche! Parking and neighborhood aside, with three dance floors, a really nice smoking patio, comfy lounges, and the best tacos ever, you'll find that Das Bunker on a Friday night really hits the spot. So, if you're in the mood to let loose and have some good drinks and all at a reasonable price in an easygoing environment, then give Das Bunker a try! After touring the United States with industrial bands and attending myriad industrial shows, festivals, and clubs in over 50 US cities in addition to my experience as a rave and club promoter, I can safely say that Los Angeles is where the heart of dark dance music thrives and Das Bunker is where it beats!
