by Ileana Pettinelli on Didn't know what to expect, but from all the raves I've heard I was expecting something special. I was ready to go in and order my usual at japanese rest's: soft shell crab roll, unagi roll, and maybe some sashimi. I love unagi anything. however, on this particular night I was dining w/ Peter Y. and his friend and wasn't allowed to order "rolls"...and it was a good thing. We let him have the floor and did it PY style:) glad he knew the owner and understood the menu inside out. I don't remember everything we had, but some dishes that totally blew my mind were: chicken liver (amazing texture. and I don't usually like liver!), somekind of grilled fish cheek, monkfish liver and scallops (beautiful presentation), mackerel and yellowtail sashimi, oh and I did get some unagi -yay! I can't recall everything, but these dishes are a must-try. oh and I discovered a new yummy beer tonight (and I don't even like beer!): Asahi kuronama. the server translated it for us as "kuro" means black and "nama" means live or draft. so next time if I don't have the discerning assistance of PY w/ me I might have to get the omakase that I've heard about and just let Art-san do his magic. and will wash it down w/ a nice cold kuronama...
by Milly Coldwell on get up close to stage for if seeing acoustic instruments balcony gives good birds eye overview small venue with bands touring through street parking openings can be sparse
by David d. on I'm glad it didn't smell like FEET. Usually I get dragged to Venu on Wednesdays, and it always smells like FEET in there. GROSS! They light incense everywhere, and it makes me feel like I'm about to get a Tarot Reading in the truck stop bathrooms they have.... anyhootzz, there was a sign on the door saying they were shut down, with a city notice! Perhaps a City Feet Ordinance was broken? We went next-door to the adjacent Rumor. I really liked it here! Ultra clean, sheik, hip, I felt like I was in a victorian mansion. The bathrooms were CLEAN! (but there wasn't a toilet paper dispenser in one of the stalls, which might be a good thing? Only a JERK would drop a deuce at a club!). $10 Vodka Redbulls, which I expected... and I'd STAY with cocktails, here... I think I paid $6 for an Amstel. :( I didn't pay a cover, so I'm not sure what it is.... but I don't think I'd EVER pay $20 to get in here, unless the walls were made out of drugs
