by Yasuko Piech on A Dominican restaurant/nightclub. My friend took me here for an early dinner last night, the place was pretty empty and definitely no dancing going on but some Spanish music was playing for entertainment. I'm pretty sure on a weekend this place is happening! Our server was nice, we got complimentary garlic bread while we wait for our appetizers. I tried the shrimp ceviche and it was yummy! Now I love Spanish food, but last night I decided to have a T-bone steak for my main course. I wish I had gone for arroz con pollo or chuletas or something else because the steak was a disappointment. First of all I ordered it medium and it was served well-done. The steak was dry and no seasoning. After tasting it, definitely had better. I didn't finish the steak so I took a doggy bag for my pooches and boy were they jumping for joy! Glad somebody else enjoyed it!
by Nena Bodine on I went to Luckie for a friend's birthday for the first time last weekend and after weighing the pros and cons, I figure it may be worth returning if I'm in the mood for sub-par food and mediocre music. Pros: 1. The layout is pretty functional and spacious. The VIP section upstairs is nice and open with a great view of the city and plenty of comfortable seating. 2. The prices are reasonable. My meal fell just under $15. 3. There was an okay helping of eye candy to look at. 4. The staff was friendly. Cons: 1. Much of the music was sorry. I was not feeling about 75% of the tracks they played, which is probably due to the fact that they broadcast live on the radio the night I went. I hate the radio. 2. The club became too packed. This is a problem. Greedy promoters need to learn to turn people down so the people already inside can actually have a good time without standing under someone else. 3. I could have passed on the food. 4. There were one too many "rats" there. I mean nasty girls with unappealing outfits, bad weaves, and no couth, dancing a little too "Magic City."
by Art O. on This is a pretty cool venue to see a small band. The lighting gives it an intimate feel and the sound is usually mixed just right. The service behind the bar can be a bit erratic but they seem competent and friendly enough. My experience last night, however, made me feel a bit ripped off. I went to see my old buddy from NYC play here while he was touring the West Coast. After he played, we figured we could hang out, get a drink, and catch up on old times. But the bouncer kicked us out after the show (it was barely past 9pm!) to make room for some DJ or other to play (they cleared the whole place). I already paid my $10 cover and he said we'd have to pay another $10 to come back in! What the fuck was that about? At least give a discount to those who already paid. In the least, we woulda paid at least that much for more drinks. I don't know if this is a common thing for this place or other venues but that kinda shit just ain't right!
