by Andy H. on I had a lot of fun, so shouldn't complain, but I want to echo what some of the others have said. The dance floor is so narrow, that it seems like no matter where we were, we were constantly getting jostled by people walking to and fro through the packed floor. I got the table service for my friends BDay, which was a huge hit. The only problem with the VIP experience here was that the people in the party that did not arrive with me were kept outside for 10 minutes or so. Not what I would call VIP treatment. I was surprised to hear some 70s-80s dance music, but no one seemed surprised so I went with it. Bottom line, eveyone had a great time, so I'd go back and I'd recommend it to others. Unfortunately most clubs are run like this place and some even worse. I'm giving it 3 stars because it's closer to "A-OK", then "Yay, I'm a fan". Personally, I'd go to Ruby Skye, but maybe that's just me
by Miel H. on I lived in Oakland for seven years and never went in this place. Now, I come to SF as a visitor and end up here. Yes, Virginia, it's true, all the bridge and tunnel folks that you used to see lined up outside still go there. I thought it was gonna be huge inside, but now I know that the line was 'cause there ain't no inside! Super small means hard to dance and for sure no hoola hoopers. I did see some cute mall fashions and the girls were friendly in the bathroom which is a good sign. So, it is not Ruby Skye thank god. I went there for a big fashion show and ended up thinking that the concept was better than the reality. It would have to be good friends or good music to make me want to mingle my dollars there again. I'm only sad that I missed Qool when DJ Levi was spinnin' there. 'Cause that man is juicy delicious.
by Evelynn Oesterling on I found myself at the Starlight Room on a Wednesday night and found this place popping! I have no idea what the cover charge was since we were on a 'list'. We also had a large table reserved, only to have it given away when Barry Bonds showed up. (We arrived after him, and were given a smaller table. Hey, hook us up then if you're going to give away our table!) It was definitely crowded and lots of people were on the dance floor. There are great views from up here and it's a cool little place to vibe on a weekday right in the midst of Union Square. The music wasn't too bad either. The drink menu is extensive and expensive, if you can even read it in the dim lighting. There is a bit of a snobby crowd going on here as girls are dressed as if they are going to be on the red carpet. (There was a cat-fight that broke out in the ladies' room over a spilled drink!) Overall, it's a cool place, on a Wednesday night. The crowd was young - late 20s and 30s. But with a private elevator that zips you straight to the top, it's definitely a pretentious crowd. They don't appreciate any loitering near the elevators at all. I'm not sure if they had an enforceable dress code or not, but I do recall one of the guys in our group in sneakers. I would go back, as long as I get on that 'list'.
