I've been a couple times, once for a private event in the upstairs dance club / event space and then recently for happy hour (5-8pm!). I'll admit, I was drawn in by the sign on the street - standard HH prices are $3 beer, $4 wells, and $5 house wine. The "small plates" menu has 6 meat options all right around $8 and a $5 vegetarian option. Even better, on Tuesdays (the day I came), they offer a $2 beer and a $2 cocktail - today was strawberry margarita - plus 2-for-1 on small plates. The margarita wasn't very large, nor impressive, but was perfectly satisfying at the price-point; in fact, it would be acceptable at the $5 price-point I'd expect most places. We both claimed to not be terribly hungry "but could eat something..." so we had the braised short rib sliders, the fried calamari, and the leek-and-chevre tart (special du jour). The calamari would have benefited from slightly more seasoning and slightly less time in the fryer, but was overall good. The sliders and tart were excellent! Service and decor were excellent - friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The main floor is definitely a lounge atmosphere with couches and booths, and the music selection was an excellent mix of jazz, blues, and mellow pop; it floated in the background creating ambiance without calling attention to itself. Roe has definitely earned a spot on my list of nice places to go for a drink in the Financial District!

Let's begin by saying - this is not your typical hollywood hotspot. You either know that you're going here for the evening [it's tucked away, not too many people know where it is] and let's just say at the door, you're either in or you're out. That's it. And the venue, crowd, ambiance are all the same way: i summed up my night here as "too cool for school". It's definitely laid back, chill, and not pretentious or elite. Now, apparently there are two [completely different] sections that make up the glory that is h.wood. When you approach the stairs, to the left you will find the "lounge" and on the right you will find the "upstairs [newly opened] nightclub portion". This review will be for the latter. Walkthrough: Once past the rope and up the stairs, you'll find yourself on a dimly lit-quasi-patio like area. As you proceed down, you'll find the restrooms to your right. Go a little further and you'll find tables scattered here and there. The [main] bar is on your right. Navigate your way past the bar and to the left and you'll find a small-ish room that serves as the "nightclub" with a few lights, dj booth, and tables adorned around the space. Through the club to the left you'll find more restrooms and a smaller make-shift bar at the end. As I said before, this place just exudes coolness. Everyone was well-dressed, and what I really liked about this space is that on the "patio" the music is a lot lower so you could actually have a decent conversation (unheard of, right) in a hollywood nightclub/lounge. Let's just say this is not the place were everyone and their mom is taking pictures. On this particular Saturday that I visited, Adrian Grenier had a table and Adam Levine of Maroon 5 showed up as well. The overall look and vibe is a boho chic kind of feeling going on. The bartenders and table servers "uniforms" are interesting to say the least. This is not your typical club with the dj spinning only hip-hop and top 40; I actually didn't even hear one song like that the entire night, which I also liked [if that's what you're looking for, go to foxtail or myhouse]. Also be cautioned that there is a card min of $20. Check it our - definitely a cool place to spend your evening.
