by Aces M. on Just went there for lunch with my brother. I won't be back here... PRICE Pretty pricey for a taqueria! Almost $7 guacamole and hardly any meals under $10. FOOD The chips that came with the salsa were different from the chips that came with guacamole, which was a bit curious. I got the fish tacos but I had to get it without the slaw and sauce (I don't eat dairy). I appreciated that the server told me that the rice had pork in it and she offered to give me a house salad and black beans instead. I did receive a salad with my meal (although it was topped with cheese, grr) and I did NOT receive black beans. I didn't sweat it though cuz my brother's meal came with beans and he let me have some of his. He got a chicken quesadilla and much to his surprise it was deep fried and spicy which was a big disappointment for him as he is not a fan of deep fried or spicy foods... ATMOSPHERE There is nothing particularly outstanding about this place. We did have to inquire twice about to go boxes for our meals. We packed up our leftovers and went on our merry way. After dropping my brother back off at work, I realized we never paid for our meal!! Strange because after asking for to go boxes twice, you'd think they would have brought us the check... We had completely forgotten about asking for it! We thought for a split second about just not going back because we both were unimpressed with the place and would never go back, but of course I went back to pay for it. Our server merely said "Oh, I was out looking for you." Not really any particular 'Thank you' for not dining and dashing. This turned me off even more to the restaurant, as I think she should have been grateful that I came back at all. *Scoff* OVERALL Unimpressive and overpriced. If you are looking for a good, cheap Taqueria, go to Taqueria del Sol or Prickly Pear. MUCH better food for MUCH better prices!!
by Gregg Kolinsky on Hands down, Mezzanine is the best club in the city for watching bands in a large-ish venue. I've seen everyone from Fischerspooner to Hot Chip at this place, and while it's big, it's not too big to detract from the experience. They're either practicing voodoo magic or they have some serious connections, because they continue to book the most cutting edge bands and even some major players. The Lady GaGa show was incredible, from her costumes to the dancers to her eccentric performance, and Mezzanine backed her up with some instense audio visuals. True, going to this club is not like seeing your favorite band at a tiny little venue like in the old days. Sigh, shed a little tear, find your oooommmmm then head back to Mezzanine!
