There's not a lot of bad things to say about the Frying Pan other than it can be INSANELY crowded. I've had a burger twice there and both times they were awesome. It's expensive but come on, this is pretty prime real estate. I have to wonder though, how often these drunk people accidentally fall into the water. My chair was like 2 inches from the edge. I wouldn't have cared if I fell in, but I really can't afford another phone. I would say this is the place to go in the summer if you want a hot boyfriend/girlfriend/what have you who APPEARS to be extremely wealthy. I just kept watching impossibly attractive guys and girls walk by in droves with designer shoes/handbags/etc. Entertaining.

Reality Check Tv teamed up with Petey Pistolero (aka Crank Sinatraw) to put on a little St. Patrick's Day/Drunk Tank Reunion at CDN. The Drunk Tank was a great "Dive Bar"-style joint just down the street at Market and Laguna, which unfortunately closed after just a few short years. Every so often we keep the name alive with fun events like last nite's--or, even better, the Hurricane Katrina Benefit we did at Bender's a couple years back. I've always loved the interior of this place--very old-school, early 20th century. They have a killer sound system and the staff and crew are top-notch. The bartenders pour a good stiff drink, as well. Gotta love that. So, after getting to the club early, and introducing myself, The staff were beyond helpful. We got stuff squared away so I could DJ, even as the bands were finishing up soundcheck. The house tech guy handled everything smoothly, including when the lovely DJ Mockingbird needed a set up for vinyl. I have gone exclusively to CD's so I didn't have to lug crates of records like she did--but she did play some awesome stuff. The house manager hooked up the drink tix very quickly, and we got the show started. A nice crowd showed up--not too packed, and not too few. We mostly avoided drunk knuckleheads and/or frat boys ruining a cool party--although we had to remove one guy who insisted on grabbing girls asses and trying to pull the mic stand out of the lead singer for Jetboy's hands a couple times. But he's a guy who's been at a bunch of shows, so it didn't get out of hand. He was chastised, and eventually left. Also present for a while was Ratecluber Sean-o-Matic, who stopped me to say hi. Ms. Bee Knees was nowhere to be seen, however. Too bad... The show itself was amazing, with a cool band called Nylon Heart Attack opening the proceedings with passionate abandon. A Band Called Pain, one of my fave local SF bands (complete with mic stands made of heavy duty chains) came out and crushed withtheir particular brand of soulful metal. A new wavey band called The Frail did a short set, and then local legends JETBOY (see http://jetboyrocks.com) came out and really delivered a patented arena-rock type show, with awesome segues and slick stage patter from vocalist Mickey Finn, who still has his awesome range after 20-something years. It went by too fast--a sure sign that it was a good time. We're looking into doing more Events there in the future, since this one was so much fun!
