by Tani H. on I visited the Nuyorican Poets Cafe a couple weeks ago on a Friday night. Overall, I had a good time.. and it seemed as if everyone else was as well. They have a bar so I had a couple of beers and enjoyed the show. My only problem with the location were the bathrooms... there was always a long line, and not many bathrooms somewhat of a problem with a very packed audience. As the night went on many people left since the show seemed to drag on for hours. If you plan on coming here make sure you are prepared to stayed for a few hours, overall though it was a good experience!
by Ming Toher on If the upstairs is open it's a great place to go for a little more room and a better chance at a pool table... expect long waits for shuffleboard and pool if you go anytime between Thursday and Sunday nights (it's a big hit then since it offers entertainment as well as drink specials) or if you head out after eleven. If you go before ten the crowd isn't as college-pure. The bar also offers a limited menu for those who get the munchies while out. It's not a bad hangout, and well located, but it's very dependent upon the time and day as to whether you can play a game or dance with friends, or if you are waiting more than an hour for a table.
by Lauretta Seweall on A half order of the fries is plenty for 2 people (IMHO). W and I split the Chinese Chicken Salad and a delux burger. The salad was so huge and they already split it into 2 bowls I had to make sure that it was just one order, not 2. The fries came out first, then the salad, then the burger. The fries should have come out with the burger because by the time the burger came out, we almost finished the fries. The service was kind of slow. I don't know if the waiter was sluggish from Thanksgiving turkey or what, but he was not very quick to clear the table at all.
