i went recently with 7 friends and was therefore able to sample a number of dishes. indeed, the goat cheese balls were fantastic. the waiter was very helpful and gave good advice on wine, and the beet salad was very good, not great. the grilled calamari were blah. the bread for the table was exceptional, and the fast horse cocktail (whiskey, mint, and blackberry) was also -- could someone in philly pick this up, please?! cheeses we sampled were great, and the corn soup seems to have been so tasty that it was gobbled up before it could even be shared. i would definitely go again.

I used to visit Space every week. In fact that's where I met my now husband so these digs are like my second home and this is the straight up truth: PROS -AWESOME sound system. The kind that gives you chills -Great DJ's most of the time -4 rooms - one plays trance, one house, one hip hop and the patio plays anything -Huge dance floors -5 Bars that serve alcohol until 6am (do you hear that California?). Space doesn't have a 24hr liquor license -The dancers can be a most welcomed distraction CONS -The huge line to get in. if you come during de-rigueur club hour for Miami which is midnight, prepare to wait upwards of 30 minutes just to get to the bouncer, which brings me to my second CON -The bouncers with an inflated sense of self-importance. You better play nice because he/she will determine if you get in or not. If you are a guy know that you won't get in with a bunch of guys, borrow a chick, any chick to bypass the doorman. If you are not wearing proper attire in the eyes of the doorman which BTW includes jeans, you are also not getting in. Go back home, you've failed your mission -The cover door charge starting at $20 on regular nights, upwards of $80 if there's a "special" DJ playing and let's be honest here, all DJ's think they are special. -Come prepared to make a fire to attract the bartenders with the smoke signals, otherwise you'll perish of thirst. Be forwarned a bottle of water that is $1.20 outside the club is $6+ here -Idiots and posers everywhere especially in the VIP (Very Important Poseur) sections, which BTW have crusty couches -The janitorial staff is insane. As in they will be sweeping over your shoes to try and keep 2 square feet of dingy carpet "clean" -The bathrooms are disgusting. Long lines await thee -Can get hyper-crowded -They let you smoke inside which means that when you come out of the club you'll a) have to send your clothes to a Level 4 decontamination facility, b) take an alcohol shower to disinfect properly, and c) will be blowing black tar out of your nose for the next week Other than that, good times!

Awww yeah! I was sad when The Top closed down. I was sad when the Sunset Party guys had there last party of the season. What happens if I get the urge to throwdown on a Sunday night?!? Enter 222 Hyde. It's an old down and out bar in the TL. You can tell there is a lot of history in there. Back in the day, it used to be the Blackhawk, a sick jazz club in the 50's and 60's. The new owners bought it in April 04'. Downstairs in the main dancefloor space it feels like the downstairs of Deco- tight and cozy;) I liked the crowd and I liked that fools danced. Not just sat around posing. Bionic is every Sunday. Go, these guys have been throwing this party for years.
