by Brendan O. on We really enjoyed our first (about time!) visit to Grace Tavern, an understated effort at "upgrading" a neighborhood pub into something that offers more in terms of food and drink than the typical "'hood bar", but maintains its local, homey feel. A dozen great beers on tap and in healthy rotation, and a short but "tight" food menu that boasts some great but inexpensive sandwiches (I tried and really liked the Boudin Blanc, a veal sausage) and some nice simple sides, most notably the Belgian Frites that are a favorite at Fergie's other establishments in town (Monk's, The Belgian, etc.) and the nearly-famous-now Blackened Green Beans, well worth the $2.50 up-charge with my sandwich. Grace Tavern is small, so be warned: We went at a low-population time (6pm on a Monday), and I can only imagine how densely packed it might be during busier hours.
by Tenesha Wadusky on My kind of club...no pretentious dress code or idiocy here...just straight up "we just want to have fun." It has an ample dance floor, a big bar, and a patio with a fountain! Really, where else can you find all of that plus no B.S. or attitude from anyone?! Even the DJ booth is accessible, should you feel the inclination to climb 3 little steps and high five the DJ for his awesome job. A shout out here to DJ Hawthorne, turntable magician extraordinaire and reader of dancers' minds. Oh and this is a great place to people watch too. Like that time when the hottest tranny I ever laid eyes on arrived thrashed out of her mind and proceeded to continue her imbibing marathon. Hilarity ensued when after gyrating for a while in her F-me shoes, she proceeded to vomit all over herself, her now not-so-f-me-shoes, and her friend. Good times!
by Vicki Math on I just hitt Opera for the first time since it was the former Club 1150 and thought it was real cool. Pretty looking...The set up reminds me of Mansion in Miami, just smaller. The music was okay - they played a little something for everyone. The crowd was hype and had good energy. No intention of becoming a regular, but would definitely visit again. You can club hop in this area so if one spot isn't working for you, there's always another you can pop into.
