by Lesia Naruaez on Yes, there's an STK in LA along Douchebag Row (aka La Cienega by Santa Monica Blvd), but I've never been. I chose to fly 3,000 miles to have my first experience at STK in New York. I didn't eat, but I did lounge on their comfy, sleek couches and I just happened to find myself downing a few cocktails, one of which was an awesome Strawberry Rhubarb Martini. If you know me, you would know that my second favorite dessert of all time is Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp. So you can only imagine my delight for the martini. The rim wasn't salted, it was graham crackered!! F*ck yeah!! It was a dessert and drink all in one--just what I like. Still waiting for someone to invent the Sticky Toffee Pudding Martini. The dildos on the wall did uber-creep me out (although come to think of it, maybe they were going for the elephant tusk look--well, that's kinda creepy too), but overall, the place was great. Not too pretentious a place and a nice diverse crowd. Seemed to be older, but I can never tell how old white people are (no offense!). It was really the people I was with that made my night, but the environment facilitated a lot. Maybe I'll try the food next time, and maybe I'll go to the one in LA. It's a tad bit closer.
by Jody Grandison on I've only ever one for pool and dancing. The pool was fun because it wasn't busy, but then the dancing wasn't fun because it wasn't busy. So yeah.. it's decent for shooting some pool with friends though!
by Talib K. on Live music, live music, live music! The owner is hangin' her hat and bettin' the farm that the draw of live music will be enough to pack the house at Kat's Cafe. The performances typically feature local jazz artists and on Saturday nights they feature the latin sounds of Salsa. The space is small but cozy. They have a full service bar and a kitchen that serves appetizers (e.g., small pizzas). I like the vibe they are trying to create and the Midtown location is a good one (despite being tucked under Helmet Salon). Honestly, I think the jury is still out on this place until they develop a more consistent clientele and vibe.
