Happy Hour Rocks. Half off martinis (Pomegranate is my fave) and food. Waitresses are dressed to impressed those who are into freshly-manufactured boobs that are pushed together and can serve as a chin rest between taking orders. Trashy, but you soon forget after you see the menu and realize what a good deal happy hour brings. The ahi tuna salad served over a bed of calamari and seaweed had me at hello. And only $7 during happy hour. Even as I write this review, I yearn for this salad. I wonder if getting two at happy hour would seem too gluttonous? I digress. The steak sandwich, also $7 during happy hour, was superb. The meat was flavored just right and the bread was warm and fresh. The horseradish sauce could have used a bit more kick, but that's totally fixable. And yes, the crowd is older, but hey...we're all going to get older so give the 40-something crowd a break. I, myself, will be there in about a decade, and I hope that my mere presence at an establishment won't be reason enough for others to avoid it. Sheesh, people. So anyway, good food, good drink specials, good place to meet with your girlfriends for an after-work meal and drink to play catch-up. I only say that because I probably wouldn't come here for more than 2 hours, as it gets way crowded and people are getting way drunk from having too many half-priced martinis. This is definitely a spot I will frequent a few times a month.

When my friends in L.A. told me we were going out here Thursday night, I did my due diligence and hit up rateclubs to research what sort of place it was. Based both on the description of the establishment and the reviews, I really had my hopes set low for Apple. Actually, I had quite a great time, and here's why: 1. I went with fabulous friends...and we're all girls. That always helps at a place like this. 2. The doormen were exceedingly nice and attentive (as we had to wait outside a bit for the place to open. FYI: it was 10:20 when we showed up.) 3. The hosts/hostesses outside let us sit at a "reserved" table until they were able to sell bottle service there, and then they graciously moved us to another "reserved" spot inside, where we were able to enjoy the rest of the evening (without having to pay for bottles). 4. The guy by the bathroom--let's call him the "inner" doorman--was opening up access to the closed part of the club to allow ladies to use the three-stall bathroom in the back, rather than making us squirm uncomfortably in line. 5. The bartender remade my martini without question when I came back to him 5 mins after the first time and explained someone had knocked the drink out of my hand. 6. The people watching was incredible. Just, wow. Scandalous! Maybe I'm getting old... Yes, it's a scene, but it's also a *scene*. Yes, the music is your typical Top 40 hip hop, but that's what my friends and I like to dance to. Yes, the drinks are expensive--$12 for a vodka soda--but that "well" vodka is Kettle; in fact, once, it was even Belvedere. Oh yeah...THAT I can handle. But once was enough.
