Dishes are really tasty, servers are always nice and friendly but customer service; 1 out of 10! They said waiting time is around 45 min but we waited for 1 and a half hours! When we complained about it they said "you don't have to wait" politely!  don't think i will go again

Had a great time here Memorial day weekend. The Patron Shots were very generous and general cost of the drinks are priced about right for the Area and setting, Ive seen worst i.e more. Dancing area could be bigger but what do u expect from a "restaurant turned Club" I believe I met Harry Denton himself.???a gentlemen offered to help take pictures and get a great pic of us with the square in the backround. As I left i saw the posters in the elevator with the gentlemen likeness. LOL

The ONLY reason I'm giving 4 rather than 5 stars is because this hotel clearly is not for everyone. This place is really fabulous IF YOU'RE INTO THIS SORT OF THING.  If you're used to the Ritz, don't come here.  If you're used to Motel 6, don't come here.  If you want a kitschy unique strange-yet-surreal-yet-awesome hotel that is really as individualistic as they come, check out this rare jewel.  You won't be disappointed. As I mentioned, the Phoenix is not for everyone.  It IS, however, for me and my friends and family.  And by family, I enthusiastically include my 70-yr old mom down to my 3-yr old son. We've stayed here many, many times.  I first discovered it when my friends and I were stalking Jane's Addiction back in the day.  I have a great story to go with nearly every room of this hotel.  Not nasty stories, mind you.  I wasn't THAT kind of groupie. Anywho, back to the task at hand.  Let me tell you the handful of minuses at this hotel first, because there are less minuses than plusses. First minus: you get to park one car free per room due to their teensy parking lot usually being partially occupied by tour buses.  No joke--- every time I've stayed here, there was at least 1 band staying here too.  Which is fine by us.  The hotel people will tell you a nearby parking lot that is not very pricey and is guarded 24-7--- so parking spillover is no big whoop. Second minus: yeah, the place can get loud or rowdy, and on our last visit this past July, the place was overrun with foreign (european) tourists. Translation: men in speedos. Just a heads up. Third minus: although the front desk is typically super cool, I did have an incident with one staffer. We were there for our wedding and after the ceremony and reception, several friends came back to the hotel to hang out until they had to leave for the airport. One friend had her 2 kids with her and since the weather was unusually gorgeous for The City, the pool was full of kids. So in went her kids.  I went to the front desk to ask for a few more towels for the kids, and the front desk guy gave me HELLA attitude, like I was asking for the moon. The pool was full of kids and really, what's the harm in 2 more kids jumping in the pool?  Turns out he was almost out of towels, and he reluctantly gave me the last two. That left a very sour taste about my whole visit, sad to say.  Everything else had gone great!  Therefore, in the post-visit on-line survey they sent, I mentioned this, and the manager wrote a nice email back to me and told me the front desk person had been given a speaking to, and that by no means would the hotel want to restrict my visitors from swimming.  Nice gesture, I thought. Fourth and final minus: it's in the Tenderloin.  I'd love to pick up this hotel and plop it in a little nicer part of town, but whatcha gonna do?  It shouldn't be a dealbreaker for you because once you're inside, you'll forget the crazies outside the gate. PLUSSES: 1. Way sweet retro decor. 2. Fabulous, unusual mosaic heated pool. 3. Comfortable amenities. Nothing too ritzy, just enough to make your stay enjoyable. 4. Instruments in all the rooms. Our room had a bamboo 'xylophone'. My 3-year old really liked that. 5. I'd consider it fairly priced. Not outrageous, not cheap, just in the middle. You get what you pay for. Nice for a change. 6. Above average continental breakfast is served until like 11 a.m. which is awesome. Bagels and pastries, fruit, juices and great coffee & a huge tea selection. 7. Terrific room and facilities staff. The people who cleaned our rooms were great and hooked us up with extras of whatever we wanted, and especially we wanted coffee.  (We have a slight addiction going on in my family.) Also, I wish I could remember his name, but we were poolside drinking beers and this staffer (I think he may have been a grounds keeper) brought us several tall cups and took our bottles away to recycling. He was very kind about it and offered to get us ice and whatever else we needed. I mean, come on.  That's just awesome. 8. Walking distance to City Hall (for our marriage license), Van Ness, Union Square, cable car and bus lines.  Really centrally located (I know, in spite of the fact that it is in the Tenderloin which has its own little charm to it). 9. Neat-o cabanas poolside. I could easily go on and on.  Maybe later I will.  But right now I have to get back to work. I love love love the Phoenix Hotel.  Tell yo' mama.
