Avalon seems like a cool place for performances, but not so much as a club. I felt like it was a better place for slightly older ppl to chill, drink, and drug it up. The music is great if you are into trance. The day that I went, I totally did not feel like the cover charge was worth it. It started out as $50 and it steadily increased through the night. It wasn't much fun for me, but it might just be because it wasn't really my kind of "club." The good thing though (at least for girls), there weren't as much groping are attempted grinding as I'd usually experience in other clubs. Most ppl. here came with their friends for the music, so not many lonely souls trying to pick up girls.

As an ex-salt water aquarium technician ( I was banned for eating turtle soup) I believe that, if you're going to insist on putting a fish in a tank... you should try your hardest to respect it's natural habitat. It's for that reason that I found this aquarium fairly disturbing, on several levels. It's like a amusement park not an aquarium. That they allow flash photography is an outrage. Those poor animals are being tortured on a daily basis. Please people, turn off your flashes! Try to remember that these aren't all fish, there are higher functioning mammals as well and flash bulb technology is not part of their natural habitat! And as far as the education value of the aquarium goes, some of the tanks were just "show tanks" with no real concern for representing an actual habitat. For instance, there was a tank in the tropical display area that showcased brightly colored fish just because of their color. The fish in that tank are from all over the globe, and would never be in the same environment! There's also lobsters and crabs in tanks the same size as the lobster tanks in a grocery stores! I'm a meat eater, but that's not really the point. If you're keeping it alive, you have a moral imperative to give an animal proper space! I mean... lobsters in the wild can have a 180 mile range and you give it a 4 foot box to live in! Evil! I think zoos and aquariums should be about education and teaching the public about how important conserving the natural environment is. Instead, this place teaches people that sea life is there for our amusement. Not the way I would have done it. But as usual... nobody asked me, or I would have made some serious changes! (I'm looking at you Taco Mac) I became a member before visiting to save some money. Hindsight is 20/20 and if I would have known what I was in for, I don't think I would have become a member. That said... since I have inadvertently financially supported the place, if anyone ever wants to go for free hit me up. Maybe we can free Willy! (Or whatever that lobsters name is)! : (

Okay, so it's pretty upstairs, and the bar is nice looking. The star at this place is definitely the margarita's and the bar area. The actual food...not so hot. Mediocre at best. Nothing memorable, nothing that wowed me...BORE-ing....... The service is pretty good in the dining room and always good at the bar, a saving grace, that stopped me from giving it one lonely little star... If you venture downstairs, do so at your own risk. It is ghetto fab at it's finest. Ladies get your nails and hair did before you even think about heading down that flight of steps....Gentleman, please. Tuck those oversized shirts in, and leave the sneaks at home...this is upper echelon at it's finest.
