Ruby Skye is an amazing and cinematic club. With sweeping, high vaulted ceilings, an amazing sound system (to radically understate the quality of the acoustics), and a decidedly not-ghetto crowd it's plain to see why it's the venue of choice for electronica artists visiting the Bay. Ordering bottle service at Skye is fun. You can opt to be given access to their balcony, a subsection of the club upstairs that effectively gives you your own small dance floor and couches to chill out at. Beneath you, a sea of people moves and churns in a tempest of drunken hedonism. The main act lies on the first floor too, but the stage is close enough where with good eyes you can see beads of sweat on whoever's spinning's face. Simply leaning over the balcony over the wanton mayhem makes one feel a little like a modern day Roman emperor too. "PLEBIANS," one might shout into the electro-light lit club, "HAIL YOUR EMPEROR." Then you might get kicked out for being too drunk. The price to all of this is, well, the price. Skye is pretty expensive. The last performance I went to cost me $50, not including drinks or anything else. I've never been stuck on the dance floor without access to the private VIP section up top, and I could definitely see that blowing hard given the lack of booths and places to sit down (unless you're popping bottles). Given that bottle service starts at around the high 200's - low 300's, you'll be paying for your seat. You're also limited to the amount of people that can be on your bottle and in your area at any given time (4?) Serious frowntown if you want to split up costs. Skye also has absurdly long lines that make one wonder whether you're getting into a nightclub or trying to go on Space Mountain. But this is all par for the course. It's one of the most glamorous clubs in town, and they have amazing musical acts, but there are still some aspects to consider.

The ambiance was really amazingly awesome. Nothing like I've ever seen before. However, you're not going to get in unless you make reservations for dinner or get a table at $300 a bottle. Observing how the bouncers were treating those that didn't have reservations and waiting outside in the long line was disturbing. All the people wanted to know was when the line would move, I guess they've been standing for an hour. And the bouncer gave a one word response and ignored them. Seems like the older crowd comes here...older as in 35-50? But not your average class of 35-50 year olds. These people are blinging! Meaning 50 year old men with $200k cars coming with much younger girls kinda crowd. My suggestion. Go across the street to STK!
