Vegan Village. I like the idea of eating dinner in a bank.  Or what was a bank. A bank turned vegan restaurant that  turns into something else at about 10pm.  I remember something about Drag night after 10 on Sundays??  I have to get out more often. If they would let me bring the kids, they would love drag night. They're favorite Drag Queen is Jackie Beat.  She's our family drag queen. Go have the Vegan Sampler plate. Everything tastes really good. I took a non vegan who had strong opinions that all Vegan food is like eating sawdust.  This person loved every bite of the Vegan Sampler. Once, I ate here with my yoga teacher, Tej Kaur and she ordered a seaweed salad, though they don't call it seaweed salad, was it kelp? Ach, I can't remember it was a year ago and I was in the middle of my dizzy crazy crisis and have broken synapses from that era, however. What was my point? I remember. Oh!  It was like a loaves and fishes experience. The more of the seaweed salad she ate, the more seemed to be on her plate.  Seriously! We think they are doing some kind of white wtichcraft on da food in da back room. Your servers are like mystics, sometimes they are in colorful robes and caps. They are very calm and present.  I always imagine when I leave the place, they ascend to heaven and the whole thing was a weird visit to another astral plane.  Sure, I'm crazy, but that's not the point. Go have a direct experience there and you will know exactly what I'm talking about. I say go go go.

Trudy's is reliably delicious and lively. I recently with a friend and we were seated immediately; I think because we were such a small party. The table was awkwardly situated in the room, with my back to the main isle and my friend's up close and personal with the woman sitting behind her. I really wish they would change the layout because unless you are in a booth, you will get elbowed or whatnot by someone. We were impressed by all the servers available and how quickly ours brought our drinks and took our order. The staff is friendly and they don't hurry you. Their salsa is only second to Chile's in my book. The green salsa is hot and a little sweet and sour like. I couldn't stop eating it though my mouth burned. I really wish they had better chips. If they did, I would eat the shit out of their chips and salsa. My friend swears their queso is the best she has ever had, but I found it a little to thick for me. I really appreciate the options they offer. I was able to get whole wheat tortillas and a side of grilled zucchini, which was flavorful but just a tad too salty. Normally I get the stuffed avocado. However, I am on a kick of avoiding fried goodness for a little. I do love Trudy's.

I had a dream the other night that I followed a White Rabbit down a hole into a glitzy, warmly lit wonderland. While was there, I danced. As the Rabbit danced with me, I looked in one direction and the Cheshire Cat was mischeviously grinning at me from across the room. I look in another direction and the Mad Hatter was howling at me. and then there was the Caterpillar chasing after me wanting to rub my belly. The Queen of Hearts shows up unannounced! All sorts of other crazy characters were there too. We mingled mostly within our group. Seems like a place where the cheesy gold chain, pinky ring & Bebe-clad go to offer and see ostentatious displays of wealth (either real or imaginary). Not really my scene, but worth checking out once, if only for the novelty of it. If there had been a cover, I would not have gone in. The music was just ok, but when I'm feeling it, I can dance to anything, anywhere. The evening was definitely all about the good company. And I REALLY don't like the whole exclusivity thing--filtering out who they want and who they don't want coming in. Didn't that end sometime in the 80s or 90s? I can see this quickly becoming a (dare I  say) Velvet Lounge type of scenario if friends can't enter with friends so they can keep the hook-up (or whatever) ratio in balance. And it's always good to get back to reality.
