Here's why I love the bar at the Culver Hotel: It's beautifully renovated, with an authentically warm, rich atmosphere that's hard to find in LA. Since it's right next to Sony Pictures Studios (previously MGM), it's got a rich history tied to the Wizard of Oz. John Wayne used to have an ownership stake. It's really cool. You can actually have a conversation without yelling at one-another. I'm kinda over the slick scene where it's 'cool' to wait 20 minutes for a drink, you get bumped around like a pin ball by people who think they're way cooler than they actually are, and you lose your voice just trying to chat. The wait staff and bartenders are awesome! Constantine mixes a mean Mediterranean cocktail (I highly recommend it). Ask for extra basil. Yes, you read right: basil. It's delicious!!! The food is consistently good, which is saying something since for some reason it has a high turnover with its chefs. The music is perfect for the setting. Sunday night was a jazz trio. During the second set, this older women took the mic and belted out the most amazing numbers. She's a real chantreuse, able to stop conversation at virtually all the tables with her powerful voice and witty stylings (you have to see it to understand) It's super easy to get to. The 4 of us were coming from the Marina, the Fairfax district and the Hollywood Hills. It's super close to the Robertson exit on the 10. Valet parking in front if you don't want to deal with public parking over the Trader Joes.

I LURVED THIS CONCERT VENUE. I love the antiquated look it was pulling. I would definitely go there just for other nights without concerts... it sounds amazing. I know they are 18+, but I just wouldn't go now because the bouncers are pretty strict about fake IDs... in fact, my friend had hers taken when we tried to use it for a Ladytron concert. The strobe lights for that concert were CRAZY, but my friend got a headache.
