I went to Bruno's for the first time this past Saturday for a coworker's bday. I don't venture into the Mission at night too often but Bruno's is a pretty cool place, so I wouldn't mind going back. Even though the parking sucks ass and there are way too many mexicans hanging around the streets at 2am for comfort, the crowd and atmosphere is what would draw me back. I've been to way too many asian clubs to know that there is a 85% chance you will bump into someone you know, so the diverse crowd here is definitely a plus. The choice of music was a bit strange and not very well put together, but I think it was mainly because the dj sucked that night. I paid $10 cover to get in but I believe it's free before 10PM without having to get on a guestlist. The lax dress code is also nice, I wore chucks and a tshirt and I fit right in. I know the dress code is usually more strict for guys but I saw guys with chucks and a tshirt even though the website says dresscode enforced for guys.

Um, girls are free and boys pay $20 and when I told the bouncer I was gay he didn't even knock $5 off. Thank gawd my friend works there and I got in for free. Location: In the SOMA surrounded by bars and restaurants. Weird to get to if you don't drive so save up money for the cab. Space: Tacky space. It looks nice from the pictures but looks nothing like that inside. Kinda reminds me of the remodeled BOC on Church and Market...too L.A. without the funds to make it tasteful, Ambiance: There were too many meat heads for my liking. Luckily I was here for my friend's birthday party and the group we were with was fun fun fun! The music was also pretty good, for which I've bumped up a star. A good place to dance. Service: They gave us complimentary champagne and I did not have trouble getting to the bar. The bouncer was kinda douchey and so were the security guards...but I can understand that they need to be like that to deal with some of the meatheads. Food/Drink: Average...just average. Overall: I didn't hate it, but probably will not be returning to this place anytime soon.

Wow, this place deserves the asshole of the year award.... OK, I am not usually compelled to write reviews--i really respect many Ratecluber's writing abilities and use this more as a "research" tool...but I do know nightclubs. And I am compelled to write about the fact that Harlot isn't worth a penny of your money or a minute of your time. --The bottom line is that customer service goes a long way, especially when you are paying upwards of $500-$1000 for a table...but, like similar reviews: *our guest list wasn't respected--trust me, don't even try to get in and be prepared not to even if you are on the list *the bouncers were not only rude, but condescending, and *the management accepted no accountability for our complaints or the complaints of another table's group. Our hostess, Dee Dee, was clueless throughout the reservation process, from being unresponsive via cell phone and email until about 3 days before the party... to giving us a different bottle minimum 3 times...and to, finally, on the day of the party, having no IDEA that there was going to be a comedy show the night of our private party, leading to an hour and a half of NO MUSIC. The Door manager, Jeremy, who I can only imagine had his misogynistic tendencies swollen from years of being rejected by both men and women, "coincidentally" (?) turned away both an African American friend and a Mexican American friend (one of whom was on the list) due to "fire codes"....only to then usher in very quickly a couple of Caucasian men who were not on the list. This is what I witnessed as I was outside speaking with him about the people on our list they were turning away... At the end of the night I was barely given 2 minutes to ask for, receive and sign the bill before one of the bouncers physically pushed a friend out of the table, where she was sitting waiting for me to sign as we summed the bill up--and no, no one was obnoxiously intoxicated. All in all, avoid having your parties here...there are better spaces, DJs and bartenders for less money.
