by Karen L. on One of the best clubs I've been to in San Francisco!! The area it's in seems a bit shady, but there are a ton of people decked out in clubbing attire, so no need to fear. We found street parking, fortunately, but it was super cold. The line was so long that we jumped at the chance when the bouncers offered to let people skip the line if they're willing to pay the full cover. We were so cold that we really did not want to wait in that line. It turns out, full cover is 25 bucks. Ouch. However, the interior of the club is really nice and very spacious (and I like spacious, because I need my space to dance!). There are 3 floors--first floor is the main dance floor, on the second floor there's another bar, and the third is on the roof for people to chill. We checked out the roof, but left almost immediately because, of course, it was cold and windy (not the smartest idea, but we were curious). The drinks were good (even if they were bad, I can't really remember) and the music they played was of your typical top 40 hits. One of the reasons why I like this place is that it is clean!! Me no likey a dirty club. This is definitely one of the places we'll go to again for clubbing, because the venue is great (spacious!) and there are several bars dispersed throughout the club. PLUS, it seems that it definitely attracts an attractive crowd (meaning, the girls AND guys at the club that night were hot... and the guys weren't creeper status). A club that attracts non-shady people? Definitely a keeper.
by Carolyn T. on The appetizer sampler seemed a reasonable offering; yam fries, chicken wings, corn and shrimp fritters, and biscuits. I'm not usually a chicken wings fan (something about the hated sports bar mentality or something) and no one else was interested so I finished them all; instead of a sickly sweet, bbq-style coating, the glaze was both spicy and piquant. I'm not a spice fan but I enjoyed these. The fritters were also quite good; crispy on the outside with a tender filling. The yam fries were the clear winner (although I miss Joachim Splichal's version with fried ginger). The real disappointment came in the biscuits themselves. Cold, pale, and dense with a meager honey-butter spread that accompanied them. The sampler plate was served with three sauces; a cucumber cream dipping sauce, a mango ketchup, and something with jalapenos that I didn't bother trying. Too full to order fried chicken or jambalaya... The highlight of the evening was obviously the jazz. This is a great club for accoustics and Ron Thompson, the performer last night, was fabulous. I've gotten to know the guys at that Boom Boom Room well enough that I don't have to pay a cover, but on the occasions where a $10 cover is acceptable, I'll gladly head to Biscuit and Blues. The drinks, also, were quite butt-kicking..
