I have lived in Austin my whole life. I LOVE the development on the East side. Some of my favorite restaurants are over there. Unfortunately, East Side Show Room will never make that list. Whenever people visit Austin you will often hear them complement how friendly and inviting Austinites are. I would assume that the people who complement the overall demeanor of our city have never been to East Side Show Room. I have been to this neighborhood establishment a few times and been told "there is a 45 minute wait for a drink" or "our drinks are too complex to be ordered directly from the bartender" or "you must check in with the hostess and receive instruction before I can help you". I don't know anyone in Austin who would wait an hour for a table without being served drinks and I am sure your beverages aren't any more "complex" than the freshly made concoctions at The Good Knight or Peche--where the wait staff shockingly manage to make good drinks with fresh ingredients and be friendly at the same time. If all of Austin was as snobby as the East Side Show Room I would have moved a long time ago.

I am only reviewing Yoshi's based on a recent concert experience.  My girlfriend and I went to see Jazz Mafia do a tribute to Michael Jackson on a Wednesday night. First and foremost the show was "supposed" to start at 10:00PM with doors at 9:45PM.  We sat out in front of the doors to the venue until around 10:15PM with absolutely no information from the Yoshi's staff.  Then at 10:15PM a staff member starts hollering everyone to "get back!" from the door as I guess we were too close (next time just setup some ropes to harness the crowds). After feeling like a pack of cattle we were moved back behind a column.  At this point after waiting and being one of the first people by the door we were now amongst the throng.  Suddenly they opened the doors and people just bum rushed.  At this point I was pretty pissed off b/c I lost my spot after standing there for 45 mins and now knew it was going to be a really late Wednesday night. We forced our way into the venue and almost all the tables and seats on the first floor were "reserved' with blue index cards.  After getting little to no help from some pretty rude staff on whether or not there were open tables on the first floor we did find a table in the furthest most back right corner of the venue. The band was pretty good when they played MJ songs we knew, but to be honest my night was already pretty much a bust after the stress of just getting into the venue and getting a table. I think they really need to reevaluate how they manage crowds going into their venue before a show starts.  It was way too amateurish for a place that does shows as much as they do and people around us were pretty much had the same complaints we had. I will have to take a pass on any future shows at this venue.

Let me explain something about Sherlocks, it's a chain and is usually located in the suburbs of major cities. Therefore, the clientele are usually suburbanites. With that being said, Sherlocks has some pretty awesome food. Not the healthiest but quite tasty. The fish tacos are pretty good and the fish and chips are great! Not too much batter and the fries that come with it are awesome! Also, HH lasts until 9pm so for all you suburbanites looking for drinks, this is the place for you!
