I'm giving this place three stars because it's a mixed review. Be prepared. I liked the fact that we didn't have to wait to get in, we just walked past the little rope ;). We walked down the stairs holding tight to the hand rails (you try walking in four inch heels) and made it to the oh-so-cool lower level. The music was cool with a female DJ that was doing a great job spinning. So I would have given them five stars but.... we ordered our first round of drinks and I order my classic Cosmo except when I took the first sip it was AWFUL! So I took another just to be sure and it certified that this guy couldn't mix a drink if his life depended on it. So I did what I've never done, I sent it back.  OK, the bartender had every right to be offended but I also have every right to get a "great tasting" over priced drink.... They don't carry the ingredients for an Apple Martini so I had to get a Vodka / Cranberry.... wow what kind of sucky bartender are you that you can't even recommend a different drink with Vodka...It's Vodka!!!! Finished the first round of drinks and we headed to the bar in the front for another round.... We waited for over 10 minutes and the bartenders never came by... do you not want my tip money? There was a group of guy standing next to us who had been waiting over 20 minutes... Hire more bartenders... This place "might" be somewhere I would visit again on a bar crawl... MIGHT.

I only go to the Roxy when my favorite DJs are booked there. Since, in the past few weeks, I saw Sasha and Deadmau5 there, I thought I'd write a review on the place. The line: I've never had trouble getting into the club. Getting your ticket is another story though. The willcall system is extremely disorganized -- there are no signs to direct you where to go. I guarantee that the first time you go to pick up tickets from willcall, you will stand in the wrong line. The staff: I've never had trouble with the guys working security. The guy checking IDs at the door is courteous and friendly. At one of the shows, they were even polite to a kid who tried to sneak into the club multiple times. The staff who distribute tickets are another story -- I'm not sure if they hate their jobs or simply just don't care, but it can be frustrating dealing with them. The club: The dance floor gets really packed. And for some reason, some of the kids who show up think that the dance floor is a mosh pit...kind of annoying. But overall, the crowd was pretty enthusiastic about the DJs who were spinning. The sound system is decent, but it won't blow your ears out like some of the clubs in NYC. Unfortunately, because it's Boston, the sets have to end by 2am, so you might have to deal with a short 2 hour set from the headliner. Overall, the Roxy is a decent place to see a show. And since it's basically the only place to see top EDM DJs in the Boston area, you're pretty much stuck with this place.

Despite requiring Tom Tom and a miracle to get to the Frying Pan, it is ideal for enjoying alcohol on the Hudson in outdoor environs. We, New Yorkers, don't really have a beach in Manhattan and look for any excuse to drink outside when rooftop bars become tired. We drank bucket(s) of Coronas [$35] while we conversed about upcoming jazz concerts, my alma mater, and Lisa Loeb's fortune due to "Stay." The breeze compliments the booze and either quenches your thirst for a beach bar or adds fuel to that burning desire. The structure is a maze of boats connected to shanties, like a scene from Blown Away [a terrible movie from the '90s starring Tommy Lee Jones]. Do yourself a favor: bring your cronies to Frying Pan on a sunny summer day, order the bucket of Coronas (because you essentially get one for free), and come to terms with the fact that this is the closest thing citizens of Gotham have to a beach bar. I realize there was nothing surprising or substantial to come out of this review, but I can't really think of anything that hundreds of others have not said. I just wrote this review because I'm a stat whore and just wanted to add to my total reviews. For substance please consult other reviews. I reduced five stars to four based on the fact that they close at 1 AM, a bit early for my liking.
