by Rose N. on Wonderful restaurant with creepy cooks. lol Another beautiful night in Philly spent on South st deserves a visit to this restaurant. The food here is awesome. No reservation so we waited for a table, but the open kitchen with the one cook staring at me creeped me out so we just sat at the bar to eat. I like their selection of beer too- they had belgian, my fav. Read all the great reviews about the Mac and Cheese and I must say, they are true. It was scrumptious! Had a sharp cheese taste and burnt on the top. SOo good. Shrimp and gnocchi- excellent! Spicy chicken tacos are ok. Love the environment, its laid back and very cute.
by Zach F. on The first time I went here I felt incredibly insulted by the bartender. I didn't return for a year. I came around though... because, frankly, National Mechanics is cool as shit. Things I love about this bar: -- Bug collection in the bathroom hallway -- The Olde City Sideshow performs here for free (so awesome!) -- The outside steps and facade -- now that's an entrance -- The beer selection is deep enough to keep me fresh each round -- The painting of the pain proof man with the nail in his nose -- When they light up the flame candelabra outside National Mechanics makes the inner-carny in me jump for joy!
