by Jamie T. on Aesthetic appeal: four stars. Service & drinks: zero stars. The weather was gorgeous this past Friday evening (and how often does that happen in San Francisco?), so it seemed a perfect time to go check out the Sky Terrace at Medjool around happy hour. There's a great view and the seating area was nicely lit after sunset, while the temperature remained comfortable with the aid of a few heat lamps. Unfortunately, the ambiance can't quite compensate for the horrendously poor service. Rude man taking (and denying) drink orders at the bar. Rude and inattentive table service. Over-priced drinks. $9 for a rather small pour of crappy chardonnay in a stemless glass. Someone in my party ordered a vodka and grapefruit, and the server gave her a Mandarin and grapefruit. She mentioned the mistake to the server, who very defensively responded, 'Absolut Mandarin is a type of vodka. I'm just helping the other waitress. Take it up with her.' And then the server slammed the drink down on the table. Wow. Really?! After wrapping up the drinks and appetizers, we requested the bill, and it included an 18% gratuity ... which the wait staff surely did not work to earn on this particular evening. Lame. Thankfully, San Francisco is most often foggy and cold at night, so the desire to find a rooftop on which to drink is rare.
by Christina C. on Happen to hear about this event through a friend, who heard it from... rateclub! This used to be held at a different venue, but recently moved to Mezzanine. I like the location, its not hard to find free parking - a rarity in SF. I love mash ups. Hands down 5 stars to Smash up Derby. They mashed up pop with rock - genius. After Smash up Derby, there were off the wall dancers on the stage. - Cross dressing grandma's with walkers, a guy with no shirt but with suspenders and some mean eyeshadow, all included. The DJS were pretty awesome, the music was not like any other club I've been to. Pop 80's were mashed up with current pop, mashed with rock beats. The crowd is SO diverse! The attire for this is anything you want. I saw a wide range of styles at this event - from skirts and heals, to t-shirt and jeans. My ONLY down thing was that it was VERY, VERY crowded. Maybe they should pick a bigger venue to hold Bootie.
