by ruggy j. on After spending a night with the eclectic crowd of regulars, I was blessed with a new term to add to my vernacular: "martunied." For the unknowing, to be "martunied" is to get knocked on your ass by one of their lethal house martinis in a matter of minutes. I'm not sure what they do to make 'em so potent, but hot damn - I was shitfaced after one glass. I suppose the martinis are served in larger-than-normal glasses, so it might be as adding X and O to figure out that more vodka = more punch. They're not too expensive, either.... so you certainly get some bang for your buck. As for the cabaret sing along, it was more fun than a tornado in a trailer park. It's not quite karaoke because when you get up to sing, there are no lyrics books or Zenith black and white TVs circa 1976 hanging from the ceiling. Rather, you ask the piano player which song you'd like to sing, she figures it out on the fly, and you better damn well know the words to the song you choose to belt out. If not, people will label you a poser and suggest you sing some Gloria Gaynor across the street at Mint. This is a place where beautiful voices abound, so you better be on your A-game if you step up to the mic. Of course, if you're not a seasoned crooner, you can kick back and sing along with the other folks too timid to take center stage. It's a pretty fun and unique experience that almost anyone would enjoy. You'd have to be a real Debbie Downer not to soak up the good times and play along.
