The DNA is a smorgasbord of events ranging from the ever-popular Bootie to the more eccentric Bohemian Carnival to the outright crazy-fun Drag King Competition.  The staff are mostly chill, but a few of the bartenders have sticks up their asses.  And no, I'm not one of those obnoxious folks that demands my drink *right now* and I always tip well, but a smile or some sign of humanity would be nice now and then.  However, I will say that the guy who runs the absinthe bar is a gem and makes superior drinks well worth their price. The space is....spacious so you never feel claustrophobic and the bathrooms are actually very nice for a bar (much appreciated!).  The ambiance is no frills and not chi-chi.  I would not recommend the food, however.  $9.00 for a half-cold, poorly made, flavorless burrito?  They clearly know they have a monopoly on food for being the host, but they really could step up the flavor a little bit and I'd be more than happy to pay the inflated price. All in all though, the DNA is a mainstay in my life because of the great events that they host, so though while there are many things left to be desired, this place is weirdly like home after a while.

I thought I had written a review about this place before but I guess I didn't. I have only been there twice and both time were on a VIP List(don't start with that pretentious crap I'm just stating facts) so I'll give you my take on it. Actually, I just remembered I went there 3 times and the one time I wasn't on a "list" I didn't get in. Now my review can be biased. First lets talk about the good times: Got there kinda late but luckily a friend from school was in town with Jamie Foxx to shoot a movie and I got to stroll in with them. Everybody kissed ass so obviously it was a great time. VIP is extra tight with security, but really we spent most of the night going back and forth from the OVERLY crowded dance walkway(couldn't call it a floor if I tried) to the vault. It's almost too exclusive if you really want to party. The waitresses and busboys do the whole Miami "firecracker on a bottle" bullshit, but they were extra extra attentive(I do realize who I was with so take that with a grain of salt) Definitely full of "pretty" people acting "pretty" but their were a lot more groupies than I thought this club would let in. All in all I was plastered all night and had a great time. Now lets talk about the bad time: So before the two times that I was on "The List", I heard from a rateclubser(who will remain nameless) that they were having a party at this ultra cool place called G. So i went on rateclubs saw that they would be very strict with the dress code and dappered myself up. So I get there at 10:30 and the line doesn't look too long but I don't see any movement. They purposefully have two lines going against the building separating people on "The List" and those that aren't but still hold up both to make it look like its packed. I couldn't tell which was which so I politely asked the bouncer what the two lines are for. This no neck, beast of a man looked down on my 5'10 frame and preceded to say,"One line is for people on the 'List' and the other is for those that aren't, but it doesn't even matter, because if you aren't on the 'List' then you aren't getting in". What kind of BS answer is that. Now usually I would have flipped the F out, stating where his mother was staying that night and how his girlfriend would be joining her soon, but I digressed, and muttered under my breath I'll never come back to this fake ass NY club ever again. Until I got the call that I was on the list.

3.5 Tropicana Bar - Hard to get in. Gentlemen - bring ladies (yes, that's right, plural).  Ladies - dress hot (think skimpy, South Beach style).  It's outside and perfect for summer nights - very Miami-esque.  There's plenty of seating, which I appreciate...lounge chairs all around the pool. One side of the pool is hoppin, and the other side is fairly mellow. The bar is easy, very little waiting. I like this place...in moderation. Teddy's - Harder to get in. If they don't know you, they'll make you stand and wait...or leave you to rot. Dress up - it's more of an artsy, hipster vibe than scandalous or flashy. It's dark and loungy...not very big, but never over-crowded (due to serious door snobbery). Drinks are poured with a heavy hand and the music is good. The dance floor is borderline non-existent though. Best tables are against the back wall on other side of dance floor (or lack thereof). If possible, bounce back and forth.
