by mama J. on This is the type of place that I envisioned myself a regular once I was a swingin' 20-something when I was 7 years old and obsessed with St. Elmo's Fire. Why my parents let me watch shit like that when I was 7 is beyond me. I think I redeemed myself 2 years later when I became obsessed with The Princess Bride ("anybody want a peanut?!"). But I digress... But maybe my swing to The Princess Bride explains why I don't love the Mighty now that I'm livin' large in SF. Beyond the cool decor, the great layout and the warehouse appeal...there just ain't much else. No substance. No irony. I want a meatier place. Just like I want a guy who not only kisses me on my neck but one who will smack my ass at the same time, I want a club that will look good and hit me to the core with its music, too. And for that, my friends, mama needs some goddam hip-hop, some neo-soul, some r&b, some reggaeton, some salsa. Something that makes mama move. I don't just wanna bop and snap. I want to be ravaged by the beat.
