I'm so torn over Top Flr. I want to love this place, I really do. I mean, I love the decor and vibe of it. The food really does taste amazing. But my experiences here have been so vastly different I just don't even know what to think. The first visit I made with a group of friends (there was only four of us) was during the summer. We usually eat pretty frugally but like to spoil ourselves on occasion, and Top Flrs $15 Monday night special really couldn't be beaten at the time. We each got our OWN appetizer, entree, and desert, and all were phenomenal (I particularly remember the mushroom soup my boyfriend ordered... as the waiter brought it to the table, we were almost overwhelmed by the aroma of truffles... it was a magical experience). The downside of our first visit was the awful service. We weren't a large group of people, and okay, I can understand if they were a little busy because of their Monday night special, but we were the only group waiting to be seated for an early dinner (around 5 pm) in their overly cramped entrance. We hadn't really planned on even drinking that night, but after 10 minutes of standing around, blocking the entrance while we were asked by at least 3 different hosts at least half a dozen times if we were waiting to be seated (seriously, it was ridiculous), we finally saddled up to the bar and spent about $50 on cocktails while we waited. I will totally give props to the bar, and the incredibly friendly bartender, who served us wonderful drinks and eased our irritation. Despite the annoyance of our first visit, the food was good enough to make me want to come back for my birthday a few months later. Since it fell on a Monday, we took advantage of the special again, but unfortunately the deal's been cut down a bit. My boyfriend and I shared one small, unmemorable appetizer and a bland desert. Each of our entree's however, was very good, and helped save what would have otherwise been a very disappointing meal. Maybe we should have ordered supplements or something. (We ended up going to a bar right after wards and gorged on fried green beans and blue moon, which was much more fun ;D ) I dunno, I'll probably give Top Flr another shot, someday, since I'd hate to miss out on some truly delicious food.

Lemme start off by saying that I hit this place on what could have been an off-night - Friday. I'd just flown in from NY, they said Saturday was fully booked so we chose to come on Friday, which was a mistake of HUGE proportions. 1. The door staff were very nice to me and my crew but I question how well the Level V-New York attitude is going to come off in San Francisco. The West coast isn't the East - got it? 2. Terrible crowd on Friday, absolutely horrific. We paid $250 for a table, sat and forlornly watched the self-conscious, poorly-dressed 30-somethings "dance" on their table top while not-so-inconspicuously checking out everyone else to see if they were watching them - LAME. A friend summed it up perfectly "this feels like an office party, not a club." 3. I love Cielo in NY, it's one of my favorite if not most favorite clubs in the city. Philippe is one of the owners of Cielo and of Vessel but if you're thinking this is going to bring a little Cielotude to SF you're way off mark. Everything was wrong, too much Marina, too little SOMA to start. We left after 20-30 minutes, leaving behind a paid-for table but happy to go to Pink, which still reigns as one of the best clubs in San Francisco. I MAY be willing to come back here sometime but it would have to be on a Saturday and it would have to blow my mind to make me change the terrible first impression I had of Vessel.
