Awesome view, cool place overall, but a bit ont he expensive side - even for SF. I always meet fun people when here so I am a fan. Last time we went coat check was free & met lots of people claiming to be models (part time I'm sure) but regardless led to a nice ambiance.

I like all kinds of places, high end, local bars, it all depends on the mood. But knowing this would be a nice one I dressed up, meaning I wore a dress and went with a few friends. We got here about 10pm and there was still no cover and the door man was very friendly. We walk down the stairs and see the nice decor, bar and still empty space. But we head to the bar and get drinks. The drinks are expensive, but good, the martini is just right, the wine is great and glasses are all the right ones. We take it in, the music is playing and we go and sit down before the reserved tables are taken. The coaches are super nice and we end up chatting for a while. I noticed a gut at the bar before so I told one of my guy friends and asked if he would introduce me casually. He does a great job as we go get more drinks and I end up talking to him most of the night. Turned out he was visiting and was there by himself. When we turn around at about midnight, the place is full of people and I have to say some of them look LAish and snobby but everyone is there to be seen and dressed up. He notices that the music is louder now but no one is dancing, which we are both disappointed in because now we are yelling at each other to be able to have a conversation, but this forces us to get closer and get a little more friendly with each other. I know this place is new so will see what happens with it. I can see it being fun for happy hour during the week and it's nice to have an option in Union Square besides the Red Wood Room. On the other hand it might be hot for 6 months and then fizzle like so many places. On the other hand, there were so many limos parked at this place that I took one home when I left and it cost me as much as a cab.

They should really call this place "The Birthday Party Restaurant", as I have been to 100 at least at this place. The above average tapas is perfect for sharing and the drinks are large and strong. I'm not in love with the house mojito, it is curiously made with sour mix which makes it more of a "margarito" than a refreshing mint cocktail. My other major complaint here is the lack of addiquate air conditioning in the warmer months and the scarcity of restrooms for all those birhtday guests.
