If it weren't for the sushi, I would have given this place 5 stars. Let's start off with the good news. Had the Omakase for lunch - 5 courses chosen by the chef, including dessert. I won't go into too much detail, since the dishes probably change day to day. But expect a general raw to cooked seafood + sushi progression. One thing I will mention is the best fish dish I have ever had - their double sake marinated black cod. The skin was caramelized to perfection and the meat was sweet and flaky. It came with some curiously large and delicious black beans (from giant land) to remind you how very special and modern the whole experience is. The lime green and white restaurant is also very cool. Now for the bad news. The sushi fell apart. Now I know Morimoto knows how to make sushi rice, I was there at the very beginning, when he wasn't even Iron Chef Japanese yet. I've seen him do it on TV. But my sushi rice was savory (shouldn't it be slightly sweet?) and it fell apart when I picked it up with my chopsticks. We mentioned it to the waiter and he was shocked too. Maybe a bad day? I would definitely go back and have the Omakase again. Part of the fun is not knowing what the hell you're going to get until it's plopped down in front of you. The food is overall terrific and EXCITING, and I'm sure the sushi chef has been made aware of that one boo boo.

Overall, I love the decor and their web page is cool too. I visited Mayan several times but for three different type of occasions. 1) Mayan the night club (hip pop/house/etc) Very crowded, several different rooms. Typical club scene. 2) Mayan the Salsa Club Expensive cover charge, great dancers, though not a lot of diversity 3) Mayan the Church When my friend told me her church hold their Sunday gathering at Mayan, I was shocked! :O I mean Mayan is a CLUB, not a place to worship God. I totally thought she was messing with me so I asked her to bring me one of those Sundays. Well, she brought me and I was amazed at how they transform the club into one of the coolest Churches. Most attendee were in their 20s. Everyone were singing Gospels, a priest was teaching sermons, and they even have a troupe acting out scenes from the Bible. It was the most entertaining church experience I ever have (thought it's pretty easy to beat consider most of time I look at the clock and waiting for the sermon to be over). Of all the occasions I been to Mayan, the best time I've is when I visited Mayan to worship God (and usually you've to drag me to Church). Shocking? Yeah, I can't believe it either; especially since I'm not a Christian and I love to sleep in on Sunday mornings.
