If I could give a negative star I would! Having been born and raised in San Francisco I have fond memories of this place, met my first boyfriend on the patio! Ohh the young years! It was also for the longest time one of the only bars on Polk that would take my really really really bad fake ID lol. Having just moved back from NYC with a good friend we felt like having a nite cap! It being our first Sunday funday together in San Francisco. I told him lets make the long journey in our BMW (Bart, Muni, Walk) to Polk street from Noe Valley. We arrive eager for a few or 10 drinks!! There are 5 other people in the bar. Small crowed but we stay anyway and order a few beers keeping it classy with a K PBR. The bartender who is a big guy 38 inch waist at least, white facial hair and big ass beer keg hanging over his belt! and a very bad attitude. I tip him 3 bucks, and he replies "that's it" I kinda look at him and pull back the $3 bucks and hand him a $5 and reply to him there you go grump. I did not let him put a damper on our fun. we keep ordering a beers and couple shots of Jamo. Having tipped him very well each time we ordered he still continued to be rude. Two guys walked in the bar already laughing and having fun. They ordered a couple beers. I was watching the one of them thinking " I want that one" I can hear there conversation and they are talking about Bon Qui Qui ( http://www.youtube.com...) the not so cute one yells out her famous line " I will cut you" the Bartender then tells him to leave the bar. He leaves the bar without a fight. The cutie stayed and was trying to talk to bartender. Next thing I see is the cutie throwing his drink in the bartenders face. prob. not the best way to handle a situation but it happened. Next thing I see is the bartender grabbing a bat and comes around the bar, the cutie did not run but stayed and hit him. I would have too if a guy was coming after me with a bat. they each got a few hits in. everyone in the bar just watch in confusion. My friend and I wanted to finish our beers ASAP. The fight went to the streets with bartender swinging his bat at the guy, they guy was not backing down and put his hand through the window and went after the guy with the broken glass, the bartender ran inside. With the really angry guy throwing the broken glass at him and a candle. With the fight over we ran for the Castro, well flagged a cab! In all my years I have never seen anything like this. I have never seen a patron be attack for a throwing a beer in a bartenders face nor deserve to be attacked like that. I have bartended for years in NYC had a few drunks throw there drink at me in my time. I have never handled a situation like that! If he was that drunk a simple get out or calling the cops to put him in the drunk tank would have been better. Not hitting him or swinging a bat. So bottom line if you have a bad Fake ID or want a fat bartender to come after you with a bat. Then you need to really check this place out!! I will never go back nor tell anyone to go. There is enough anger directed towards the gay community, we don't need to create it between us!!

While I like the intimacy of the space, the setup is problematic. If you want to sit, you must eat. Fine, but at least make decent food! Seriously, HOW do you mess up something as simple as a hamburger or quesadilla? My friends & I couldn't even finish our plates it was so bad - literally no flavor. That's my biggest complaint - the seating policy combined with crappy food. & I'd think if you hung out @ the bar it would be impossible to see the performer b/c of how the dining area is fenced off. It's an odd little place, I'd suffer through it again only for an artist I really adored.
