by Darryl Griffard on I get the appeal of a dive bar. I just don't think Oscars does. Drinking at Oscars is the equivalent of stuffing your coat with slightly skunked beers and riding the Patco train from NJ. Apparently, spilling your beer is a group activity. For the same reason I don't want to buy my steak from a slaughter house, I don't want to eat fried food prepared in the front of the bar. The booths are too small for more than two, and you must order from the bar. The upside is you can have a front row seat when its time for the ceremonial spilling of the tall beer. Like a mangy stray, I'm sure somebody loves Oscar. In my minds eye though, i picture Dirty frank and Mr. McGlinchey walking by quickly with noses upturned.
by Matthew Fertik on San Francisco Bakery is one of those places I end up at usually once a week. I'm a huge fan of their sourdough (which you can buy loaves of!) as well as their sausage breakfast sandwich. The staff are so very friendly and the chocolate raspberry croissant is the best horrible thing you can put in your body. They do lose 1 star for not accepting credit cards though. Come one guys, it's 2008! Dooooo it! Other than that, I really love this place, the people here, and the tasty crusty-bread sandwiches. I hope they stay open for many years to come.
by Sabrina L. on Well, first off...I visited GEM back in June to celebrate my bff's BDAY!. To be honest...the friends I went with were the ones who made it all worth it. The club was ok...the ambiance was nothing out of this world. It wasn't quite what I was expecting. I dont think I will be going back anytime soon.
