so...post thanksgiving lunch with my food fetish crew started with some rateclubs induced anxiety....had heard horror stories about parking, snooty/snotty waitstaff and long waits. let me clarify a few things, although ymmv. the parking....okay, so they have a petite lot with about 2 spots. across the street is a bigger lot. you park there and cross the street. not a nightmare folks. our server was awesome, considering that we required about 15 minutes to debate what to order. no rush. the wait...well, my poor friend was trapped in flip while i drove like a maniac to get there, but it seemed okay. so...the food? solid yumminess. actually, the butternut squash tempura with sriracha ranch....more please. in a non heart attack world, i would actually order many many fried sides (the fries, okra, squash and onion rings were all perfectly fried, crisp, not greasy and with tasty sauces on the side), and split the burger. the burger. hmmm. good, but not stellar. decent size. i had the butcher's cut, perfectly medium rare, soft toasty bun, but the blue cheese overpowered everything. i wished i had gotten a basic flip or maybe the lamb or ossobuco . that's the thing...my burger was just yummy enough, and the menu options just interesting enough that i would come back for sure...albeit in no hurry. the vibe is fun. flip is a cool looking spot with a good concept and it's quite lively. i love a great concept btw. they also have lovely flatware, which i am becoming obsessed with in my old age. only thing i was not crazy about was my milkshake. gasp! i'd rather save 4 bucks and go to chik-fil-a. seriously. who cares about liquid nitrogen? i got the pistachio, but i think pistachio was a typo. should have said plasticio....because my shake had a strange chemical plastic taste. it was later described as "green chemical sludge". very very weird. very very yuck. one friend had the nutella-burnt marshmallow. burnt marshmallow....clever. yum. rest of the shake, totally overrated. just a chocolate shake with none of the subtle deliciousness of nutella. other friend got the krispy kreme. bleech. picture vanilla shake with bits of donut...odd texture/bland taste. our milkshakes weren't even smoking. boooo! i'm a serious sweet addict...and i was like....i don't want these. final verdict...i'll be back, to try a new burger and to load up on fried sides ( i did have a beet and goat cheese salad that was half ruined by the addition of japanese rice crackers on top...huh? and half redemeed by a mix of purple and golden beets.) goat cheese was weird...tasted more like publix reduced fat feta. little strange. so, go. eat burgers and sides...and stop somewhere for milkshakes.

Decided to try the place because my friend was having her birthday party here. The ambiance was nice, it's three level. The first level is the dining area, second level was lounging and then a roof top. That's the cool part, very nice view!! The bouncer was pretty bossy of where people should stand and stuff, but needless to day it's their job. The food here is okay, tapas style. Price ranges from $15-$20 a plate, give and take. Ended up ordering: *Fried Sumac-Dusted Calamari, Red Onions and Lemons With Aioli: it was really good - the onion and lemon were also deep fried, nice flavor *Grilled Hanger Steak with Sautéed Spinach and Harissa Sauce: it was good, but nothing spectacular. It's cooked medium rare, which was perfect *Braised Short Rib, Medjool Date, Cinnamon Sauce, and Twice Baked Potatoes: The meat was really soft, sauce wasn't too overpowering and definitely had the cinnamon kick to it. Sangria: WARNING, do not order!! It tasted like cheap old wine, similar to Robitussin. Overall, should give it a try. Warning, the portion is very small (hint tapas).

What's up 80's nite! I have to attest that Thursday nites are great for Cat Club. I'm definately a fan of the cage, and of watching the aclectic group of people that convene here. There's something to be said when there's a dude in a streatcher "dancing" in the middle of the floor, while up above on a platform a scantily-clad male in black leather stands up any decent stripper known to man. I would say that the other nites are not as good, however I will not tell you not to go, because if I did, then the cycle may continue! For now, all I'll say is that out of the Saturdays that I've been at Cat Club, one was definately vampire nite and maybe 30 people were there and it was kindof depressing. In conclusion, do it. And if you're wondering if you should dress up, I reccomend it because enthusiasm is always appreciated. Ps: Morrissey & the Smiths tribute coming up Sept 13th!
